AIBU after being reported for apparently targeting a member of staff

OK no one is going to believe this to be true but I need to share it. I was spoken to today by my line manager as I've been reported in our 'call it out' policy. I made a member of staff feel targeted and picked on.
I bet you won't be able to guess what I did that made them feel so bad.
It's so crackers I actually thought my manager was joking.
Anyone want to guess?

What's so amazing about Taylor above other artists? I like a few of her songs, but I don't know much about her. I was amazed that she's 37.

She became famous due to her writing style, lots of her songs really spoke to teenage girls because she was writing about common experiences of trying to find true love, being broken-hearted and stuff like that. My nieces used to be her fans because of that.

This. I would guess she is merrily counting her millions (good for her) and having the lols at the grown adults losing their shit because other gown adults don’t like her music, wedding coverage etc.

Er, no. She very, very much cares what people think. And she encourages her fans to go after people who have 'wronged' her (even if they haven't.)

It's billions btw.

She's a malignant narcissistic billionaire.

Promisingtree · 07/07/2026 13:31

Well she has fewer billions than she might have if she have less of them to charity

No, I don’t think so. I’m a huge fan, but she doesn’t rate as a loved one. I’m not deranged.

I would certainly be sad though. I think she’s an incredible talent and an incredible role model to young girls.

@Promisingtree

How naive.

That's hilarious. It's all tax write offs. It's strategic.

How do you think she became a billionaire, out of interest? She's a grifter. Have a look at the merch she's selling right now.

Would you like this empty plastic bottle, for just ten dollars?

or perhaps this pool float, just 45 dollars! (she's such a giver, not a taker, not at all)

Btw, her (not just her, people like her) having a billion dollars (sorry, she has more than that) for just one person, is what often contributes to desperately needing all of this charity donation in the first place.

Actually yes, this. 100%. You could say you’ve been reflecting on it and now feel uncomfortable expressing personal opinions on non-work topics. You felt you understood what ‘appropriate’ was but now, given you had thought it was totally ok, you have no idea what is expected at this work place.

We recently did a dignity at work course at work and there's not much you can reasonably get away with other than comments about the weather.

But then someone might be offended because they love hot weather/thunderstorms/snow/breezy days.

She walked down the aisle to her own song 🤔😂

Perhaps the only safe bet is never to talk! But I guess you’d need to monitor your gestures too.

Do you know anything about her? There’s quite a story.

Without writing a book though, she’s determined, creative, smart, hard-working, overcame being a ‘nerd’ at school, has made a career from doing something she truly loves, she gives back to all around her - her staff, and all the communities she touches (she gave millions to food banks in all the cities she visited on her last tour), has resilience around men and failed relationships, didn’t falter when the world turned against her and tried to ‘cancel’ her following Kanye/Kim Kardashian’s stitch-up, fought for the rights to her own music catalogue (as well as making other artists aware of what they surrender when signing with record companies), she carries herself well, ALWAYS - polite, kind, friendly.

The list goes on. I’d much rather my daughter try to emulate her than a lot of other ‘celeb’ types.

What does overcame being a nerd mean?

I’ve nothing against her, I’m old enough to be her mother but can acknowledge her massive popularity, even though I may not particularly understand it.

DontDareCallMeDarling · 07/07/2026 17:01

What happened with the Kardashians? I don't follow these people, but now I'm curious.

KnottyKnitting · 07/07/2026 17:01

I just despair of stories like this. How do people with such weak emotional resilience to be offended and complain about such an inoffensive comment get through life? It’s just a non issue. God help any children they have. Can you imagine the complaints to the teacher!

Saltysweetspicy · 07/07/2026 18:28

@Swiftie1878

Her being a nerd at school is just a part of her public narrative. Was she unusually badly bullied? Is this all just played up for her image? (or to be a victim)

She came from a rich family, her dad worked for Merryll Lynch. Her parents were going to do whatever it took to make her famous. She hasn't worked her arse off. Remember the leaked infamous Scott Swift emails? (I can link these, they are fascinating)

She can't sing or dance. (I can paste some youtube videos of her singing in demos if you like)

She gives back, sure, a drop in the ocean to her I'm sure. Does she do it privately or is it all in the public domain for PR? (I know the answer) pretty sure it's advised for tax purposes anyway

She writes bad songs, and enemy songs (yes, this woman is late thirties) for every failed relationship and friendships (so many), always painting herself as the victim.

She was not an innocent victim in the Kim/Kanye thing. Did she not go into hiding for years?

Fought for the rights to her music catalogue? Didn't her dad make millions from this - because he owned part of the label that got her famous int he first place? And of course the record label she signed with would own her music. I don't know why again she was painted as a victim. We can go more into that if you like cause that's quite the story.

She doesn't always carry herself well. She was awful in those leaked texts between her and blake lively.

She remains silent on certain issues until it benefits her, or only speaks up on causes when it benefits her. Her political silence is deafening. And no, she doesn't have to speak about things. But she said she was going to, and then didn't. Said she was going to fight for certain rights, and didn't. The only things she fought for are things that directly impact her. And again, does she have to speak up in things? No, but pretty much all of her paint her in such a victim light, and yet she's a priveleged nepo baby.

Let's not get started on her environmental impact....let's just not go there

Shutting down NYC last week for her wedding speaks volumes. I thought they wanted privacy? Or is it more, look at us, and what we have, but don't look at us? Didn't she have some very questionable people at her wedding?

The olivia Rodrigo controversy - was she kind to her? I don't think so. The way she blocks other females from topping the charts ( she JUST did this with OR and her TS5 release and waited until Olivia released before sending out her pre orders (in the US they go towards the numbers for THAT week, and she waited apparently) such a feminist....

The list goes on and on and on.

I know swifties can't take any criticism of her but all billionaires should face criticism. As Billie Eilish said 'If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?'

Half the replies are as batshit as the complainers!?
Who the fuck cares if people don't like the same thing and say so. I'd have said a lot worse about TS and her crazy band of followers and I'd have put a complaint right back in had one about me over that.

Mine would be about how disrespected I feel having to share a shift with a swiftly who's forcing her opinion on me and complaining when I don't comply.

That's a complaint I'd take all the way up. Fancy being disciplined for not going along with the Taylor cult and stating so. The fact this complaint even made it to you is insulting.

But mumsnet banshees settle the fuck down. You don't always have to side with the controversial point for the sake of it. I'm sure if you heard this tale in the real world from a good friend you'd be up in arms over it too but when it's a stranger on mumsnet half of you go batshit to fight for the obviously ridiculous side to what end? How does this feed your daily life?
You're either all legitimately on the edge of committal or you use mumsnet for your alter ego to satisfy your psycho sides.
This place is mental.

OP you did absolutely nothing wrong and I'd seriously consider taking further the fact you were pulled aside over this at all.
Absolutely ridiculous as is anyone saying any different. A lot of people need to grow up and swallow a cup of concrete the world isn't going to agree with you to protect your feeling especially over an overrated tiresome singer who is just as someone said a good business person over a decent singer and entertainer... My God.

Promisingtree · 07/07/2026 21:16

Her concerts are brilliant. Don't think anyone could say that didn't take hard work, or that they felt she couldn't sing after 3 hours at that. Though "can't sing" is such a subjective thing anyway.

If you think she can sing then you think she can sing. No one can tell you your opinion is wrong. The fact she is the biggest female singer in the world when I (personally) compare her to Ariana, billie, gaga, Olivia, not forgetting the likes of Whitney Mariah celine etc is kind of baffling to me. Now they can SING! (IMO personally) but if you enjoy her voice then you enjoy it. Powerful voices aren’t for everyone. Some like wispy easy listening. Whether she is technically a good singer is another story. I’m not an expert so I wouldn’t know but put her up against say Kelly clarkson I think I know who’d come out on top.

Promisingtree · 07/07/2026 22:07

For me it's the combination of her voice (which I do like!) plus writing a lot of her own material, which many performers do not, and being able to play instruments.

I hear you, but out of those that were mentioned above i'm pretty sure they all write or co write most of their own songs, and they all play instruments too. (and can sing) except maybe ari, i don't think i've ever seen her play anything! So, it's not unique to her. I think she just plays it up more. Like the charitable donations! Better PR maybe...
