Dundee girl with axe verdict- Ilia Belov found guilty of assault and injury

snowbear22 · 12/06/2026 12:29

The Dundee girl who brandished an axe has been vindicated today as the court case has proved that she acted in self defence, her sister was attacked by the adults Ilia Belov and his sister.
Ilia Belov has today been convicted of assault and injury and making sexual remarks to a child.
The court heard previously that the 12-year-old girl Belov attacked admitted pulling a knife and axe from her waistband, but only after Belov had assaulted her.
The girl told the trial previously that her sister started to shout at Belov after the remarks, but the pair were pulled away by a friend.
She then told the court Belova approached the group, pushed her and threw her sister to the ground.

At the time the girl was believed to be the aggressor by many, particularly Freddy Sayers, editor of UnHeard, who called the reaction to the video 'propaganda slop' and Kathleen Stock's article, which did not defend or show much sympathy for the girls although the 12 year old is clearly scared in the video, but was concerned about the right wing narrative on X which emerged as it fitted the narrative of anti immigrant propaganda.

Kathleen Stock has written a spirited response to her critics:

I hope Kathleen does follow up and apologise privately to the girls and their families.

Why on earth was the girl carrying a knife and an axe? That is surely illegal?

Maybe because men like this twat that was convicted like to sexualise and assault little girls?

I recall seeing a series of statements as you describe but the only one on the Police Scotland website that has been archived is the one posted by @noshade Same statement from Aug 2025 to June 2026.

The other statements must have been published in News articles or on social media.

@Hoardasurass I have stumbled across one of the Police statements to the press - in The Guardian, which outdoes itself by describing the video as "alleged", like we all imagined seeing it!

To think I once had that shit-rag delivered to my door every day. (Although, to be fair, only for the cryptic crossword. The one in Private Eye is more fun anyway.)

I think pepper spray is no longer legal, but I’m trying to get my hands on some as I finish work at 11 pm and can’t drive.
There’s another thread about this where people are trying to say not just that the girl shouldn’t have had a knife but also shouldn’t have been loitering at a park, as if it’s a crime for tween girls to hang out together.
Victim blaming at its finest

Sad isn't it, some of my most fun middle childhood memories as a girl are of meeting up with friends after school in a local park or playground and just hanging out, in that period between being a child who must always be with a parent and full independence. Such fun times. To deny that of girls because of the threat of male violence is surely the sign of a sick society. Not saying we were never harassed of course, and we were always wary, even in Australia back in the early 80s. But we were generally safe, and there was always a Shop-keeper or passer-by you knew you could call on or run too.

Wanted to clear up the points about the young girl carrying weapons.

Cant remember if "Sophie" was Ruby or Lola but she was axe girl so will just call her Sophie as that is her media cover name.

There were four distinct parts to the encounter.

First part, Ilia Belov walks past girls making sexual comments. Rebuffed, leaves, calls his sister.

Second part, at this point Sophie had zoomed into her house and grabbed the weapons. There is no suggestion that carrying weapons was normal for "Sophie" and she grabbed the knife from her kitchen. The axe was in some kind of messy tool holder and was not sharp.

Third part, Ilia Belov returns to where girls are. His adult sister Nadjedzha arrives. Sophie's sister was attacked and injured by Nadjedzha and then Ilia Belov pushes Sophie to the ground when Sophie goes for Nadjedzha. The injury to Sophie's sister requires hospital treatment so is pretty serious.

At this point Sophie's sister is bleeding on the ground and Sophie has been attacked. Faced with an aggressive adult male and aggressive adult female who has just booted her sister in the head Sophie pulls out the weapons.

Fourth part is where most of us started this story, the video where we see Sophie holding the weapons out to protect her sister after she has gotten up from being shoved to the ground. We dont know how long has passed or what has happened in the period between Sophie being shoved to the ground and video starting.

Ilia Belov called the police after getting telo footage of Sophie holding weapons, said it was a racist incident, police uncritically and unquestioningly believed him and did not investigate further.

Am using allegedly from this point on just in case there is any active case against police officers involved or Police Scotland.

Allegedly, it seems police did not bother to check his telo for evidence to support his claims, police just accepted he was telling the truth and the girls were lying.

It is alleged that witnesses told police about what had actually happened when Sophie was being arrested but police never took statements or investigated in any way.

Allegedly, one of these witnesses was shouting at the Belov's when The Courier newspaper was being lied to by Ilia Belov for the story about this incident where he (and they) put the blame fully on the girls, seem to remember the Courier saying that it was a hate crime or racist encounter by a neighbour but was obviously not.

One set of phone footage of the encounter made it online an hour after the incident (not the Belov footage) and was a bit grainy but showed Nadjedzha Belov attacking Sophie's sister including the boot to her head and, allegedly, police said it was faked and did not investigate.

Allegedly, the uploader claimed he was threatened with arrest by police and took the footage down after half an hour.

Allegedly, despite being told that the Belov's had attacked the young girls officers made no attempt to check for wounds or to document wounds on the girls.

We know Police Scotland lied about "checking all the cctv footage". This is not an allegedly statement.

We know that Police Scotland knowingly and wilfully lied in their initial statement. This is not an allegedly statement.

We do know that at some point Sophie's sister is taken to hospital and this does not make it into any public statement by Police Scotland who are still painting the girls as the aggressors. This is not an allegedly statement.

(just like Henry Nowak when police wanted to paint him as the aggressor almost six months after his death when the facts were also fully know to that police force).

Allegedly Police Scotland and their officers did not investigate this case fairly. If true this can be seen as causing actionable harm aggravated by discrimination to the girls involved...and I hope they have a team of lawyers on this one.

Courier has a bit more about this:

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/5518870/dundee-lochee-knife-incident-police-failures/

We can reveal today that:

  • It took police SIX days to do full checks of CCTV that ultimately convicted Belov and Belova
  • Police refused to confirm that one of the girls had been hospitalised despite being asked several times by The Courier, and have still not explained this decision
  • Police did not take formal statements from the girls for several days – after they had led the public to believe their inquiries had already concluded
  • Claims of sexual remarks and assault were put to one side by the officers dealing with the initial incident as they focused on the weapons and the girl being taken to hospital
  • Police Scotland incorrectly claimed the girls had approached Belov and Belova during the incident
  • A police statement incorrectly called Belov and Belova a Bulgarian “couple”
  • Officers dealing with the incident got the age of the girl who allegedly brandished a knife and axe wrong for four days until it was finally corrected

Bravo Posie, for seeing it like it was.

What is so bloody frustrating about this, the underlying bias of a massive section of society- the movers and shakers- whose number one concern is the scourge that is racism, are blinded by that lens to what is plain as day.
The preconception that poorer white people are bigoted racists, that racism is the prevailing evil in our society that needs to be rooted out, leaves people unable to see that a 12yr old with her arms out, glaring and roaring at an adult man and woman, is desperately making herself look big and hard to avoid predators.

She reminded me of a cat, all puffed up and hissing, hoping to deter a dog that’s coming too close.

We desperately need to stop seeing tropes and start seeing individuals and situations.

I didn't realise she went home to get the weapons - so was the incident just outside where they lived?

mrshoho · 18/06/2026 08:01

Thank heavens for cctv. Without that Lola, a tiny 12 year old girl fighting to protect her Sister from further harm from an adult male and his adult sister. Would have ended up with a criminal charge.

The police have so much to answer for. They seemed unable to see what was staring at them in the face and immediately assumed racism. Instead of seeing very young girls being attacked.

The aggressor here being so brazen to actually call the police as he was so sure they would believe him. Exactly the same as the Henry Nowak murder.

We should.be very concerned about our police force.

Hellspawn · 18/06/2026 08:13

According to google maps it was pretty close.

For those that never saw the initial background to this here are the two big links. That show you how much of a mess this has been since the beginning.

Incident was witnessed and reported confirming girls stories, no action taken by police to investigate.

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/5320152/dundee-mum-knife-incident-facebook-post/

"Her post – which was publicly available on her Facebook page but has since been deleted – makes serious allegations about the behaviour of the man and woman."

"The post included three pictures of the pair and said “these people conveniently can’t speak English any more” when police tried to talk to them."

"She said: “When I made the post, I was scared about what just happened."

"He started shouting at them"

This facebook post was of course completely true and the aggressive shouting at the girls by Ilia Belov could easily be why Sophie felt the need to get weapons.

Worth pointing out that this is another post that was completely accurate but was deleted. That is two seperate posts that would have proven the case against Belov that were deleted. If there had been no cctv he would have been believed and walked.

"‘Why I recorded Lochee video’
Mr Dumana also explains why he recorded a video of the incident, which has gone viral across the globe since being uploaded online.
He said: “At about 7pm on Saturday, I was going to the shop when four girls passed by and started shouting offensive things at me.
“I tried to ignore them and carried on my way, but they continued.
“I couldn’t quite get everything that they were saying as they were talking very fast, but it was nothing nice.

Ali Dumana and family. Image: Alan Richardson

“So I stopped and went back simply to ask what their problem with me is and why they came bothering me.
“That was the moment one of them picked up her phone and started telling someone – presumably the police – that a grown man is following them and asking them for sexual things.
“I started recording it all to have proof – I was doing nothing of the sort and she was lying, and I wanted that on the record.
“At the same time, the other girl started making such a scene that would put Hollywood to shame, shouting at me, ‘Why are you following us? We are little’.
“I once again repeated I was doing no such thing, it was them who stopped me to cause a problem.
“Suddenly, two of the girls started talking among themselves, giving the impression that they were planning to take a swing at me.”
He says there was then a physical confrontation between one of the girls and his sister, which led to him pushing one of the youngsters away.
Mr Dumana adds: “I’ve told all of this to the police.
“I did this for our safety, I had to do something – and the officers agreed with that.”

That last line about uncritical and unquestioning police who just accept his story is so sad but the tone of Ilia Belov's lies is brutal...the part about a 12 year old girl and 14 year old girl 'taking a swing' at him should have had alarm bells ringing for anyone reading this.

I don’t think the police notice enough to hate. They just defaulted to adult male knows what he’s talking about, little girls on rough estates cause trouble and talk shit.

@Hellspawn Thanks very much for the detail and the Courier article. From what I can see Police Scotland don't appear to be one bit bothered about their crap handling of this case or the stress/maliciousness their mishandling of things brought the way of the girls and their family.

Ofcourse not, malicious allegations of racism is one of those things that never happen, also Scotland has a standalone hate crime law that doesn't require an underlying crime and is perception based so someone just has perceive that someone else was hateful without a proper reasonablity test so if someone perceives anything as racist it cant be a malicious allegation can it 😡

That 'whatever' attitude is so prevalent amongst state employees these days - it's infuriating. They regularly trample all over their fellow citizens and seem to feel no shame when proved they have overreached. It's very much behaviour of a "What are you gonna do about it?" vibe. They can ruin people's lives and still keeps their jobs and collect a nice pension at the end of their career.

I wish I disagreed with you, because that is such a parlours state of affairs. But I don’t. It really is depressing.
