Do jumpsuits suit anyone?

ToadRage · Today 12:27

This has been playing on my mind since my husband said that jumpsuits don't suit anyone. A friend of mine told me the opposite that jumpsuits suit everyone so thought I would have it a go and I now have two. I don't wear them often and he didn't comment when I did wear them on holiday but I have been reluctant to wear them even more since he said this even though it wasn't really directed at me personally. What do you all think?

Not a great picture but this is one of my jumpsuits, (it's too revealing without a top underneath), my other one is smarter, more fitted amd turquoise.

They are gorgeous on toddlers

BadlydoneHelen · Today 12:47

Honestly it’s not very flattering. Best for toddlers or 5’10” teens

MiddleAgedDread · Today 12:48

In the kindest possible way, i don't think that one is doing you any favours! Your boobs need hoiking up with a better bra and it's cutting you in half around the middle.

FrustratedApples · Today 12:49

I think you'd look better in a dress. I think they don't suit the majority of women and they make me look awful.

I have a couple of smart, wide legged ones that I wear with heels and I look bloody brilliant in them. If I wore more casual ones with tapered or tight legs I would look bloody awful. There are jumpsuits for every shape - it's just finding the right one for you.

princesspadam · Today 12:52

If it’s too revealing without a top then it’s not the right fit for you
with kindness that looks ill fitting and doesn’t flatter your shape

princesspadam · Today 12:53

Btw they don’t suit me because I have a long body and always have a camel toe so can’t wear jumpsuits or playsuits

Meadowfinch · Today 12:56

No, definitely not. They work on short to average height ladies with hourglass figures.

Without a clear hourglass they tend to look like the plumber's boiler suit, and for tall people like me, they are cut too short in the body and are miserably uncomfortable.

AnnListersBlister · Today 12:58

I think they suit me, of course it depends on the jumpsuit!

I am slim, athletic, no hips or boobs. I am quite 'stocky' due to the gym so I have to be careful with the shape. And I am only 5"2, so that's a factor. Dressy ones with heels work well, but I do have some more casual ones too.

doublec · Today 12:58

No, not me, I look like I should be working the press in Prisoner Cell Block H 😂

SweatiestTaboo · Today 12:58

I’ve never found one that looks anything other than hideous on me, and if I’m honest, I’ve never looked at another woman wearing one and thought ‘that looks nice’.

Mystified why they’re always recommended on MN for special occasions !

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · Today 13:00

I am a big fan of a jumpsuit and have been at various weights/sizes but my proportions have pretty much stayed the same. I am medium height, long legged with a soft hourglass shape and a size 10/12 now but have been a size 20.

NemoNerd · Today 13:01

Flat chested, petite people with a great tan who have an “I can look good in a paper bag” figure look amazing.

I had a French colleague who used to swan round the office whilst pregnant and made me realise I had never “glowed” in my life, much less whilst wearing a baggy jumpsuit.

doublec · Today 13:01

OP, I mean this with nothing but kindness, but your (pictured) jumpsuit is dreadful. Your husband was clearly being diplomatic by not saying anything

Mylifeisprettyshitrightnow · Today 13:01

I'm so sorry OP but I don't think that jumpsuit is right for the shape of your body, it doesn't flatter you. It seems to accentuate your tummy and boobs, making you look bigger than you are because the legs are wide.

I disagree with your husband that jumpsuits don't suit anyone - I think that's his way of saying it doesn't suit you without hurting your feelings.

Can we see the other one? A jumpsuit could look lovely on you but you need to find one that suits your body shape. I have a few that I think are flattering on me, I have tiny boobs and a huge tummy so for me it's low cut neck and short sleeves to bring my top half out, and slimmer fit around my middle and legs. I've tried ones that come in in the middle like yours does and on me if makes me look like a tent because it then came out at my tummy and straight down, making my legs and tummy looks huge.

Sorry I can't advise on a style for your shape but there will be loads out there that would flatter you more.

Absolutely this!

I had some last summer that I think looked good on me, I had a few compliments wearing them (I’ve since lost quite a bit more weight so they no longer fit).

Im about 5ft 4 so not overly tall and have much smaller waist then bum and thighs so seemed to flatter my shape.

If I am being honest the one you are wearing really does nothing for you. The top looks odd, just confirms it doesn’t fit and the middle draws the eye line to your tummy area.

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · Today 13:04

I don’t think that one is particularly flattering as you have to have a top underneath. If it had a higher neckline and no top underneath it would look better.
They can also accentuate your stomach which isn’t an area lots of us like to draw attention to.
I have one I got after seeing it linked in here but it’s more dressy and structured.

gotmyselfintoapickle · Today 13:05

I've never found one which fit me well enough to be flattering. On the more fitted varieties, there are so many areas that need to fit just right that for me, they never looked good.

ETA my toddler looks scrumptious in his though 💗

This is me too, I even tried buying a jumpsuit from a tall range and taking in the trousers because I'm only 5'6. But there's no escaping the camel toe.

I think they look great on people with short bodies and long legs, but they don't work for most.

FullLondonEye · Today 13:08

They do suit me - I am quite tall, broad shoulders, short body and long legs. However dresses really don't tend to look good on me. I can't quite work out why and experiment regularly with different shapes and styles but I cannot pull off a dress the way I can a jumpsuit. Other people I know are the opposite.

ImPamDoove · Today 13:08

I think they’re hideous things. Even on the tall and slim, they might ‘suit’ them but they are still bloody awful.
