Do jumpsuits suit anyone?

ToadRage · Today 12:27

This has been playing on my mind since my husband said that jumpsuits don't suit anyone. A friend of mine told me the opposite that jumpsuits suit everyone so thought I would have it a go and I now have two. I don't wear them often and he didn't comment when I did wear them on holiday but I have been reluctant to wear them even more since he said this even though it wasn't really directed at me personally. What do you all think?

I think you would look beautiful in a jumpsuit, but not the one you are wearing in that photo. It's not you, it's the shape of the neckline and the way it cuts in half at the middle. Here's one I think you would look fabulous in: Yumi Black Geometric Print Wrap Jumpsuit - 16 | Matalan

I don't see the point of jumpsuits - they are a nightmare to go for a wee and seldom look good on anyone. Yes, there are the exceptions that look great, but given the vast majority don't - why wear something so inconvenient?

I don’t get it either, wear a co ord, has the same visual effect. Without the negatives.

occassionaly I see one and think oh that is nice, but then I remind myself they always look shite on, and are very difficult to wear and I am actually tall and slim.

plus you get much more use out of a co ord as you can mix and match.

DancingNotDrowning · Today 14:45

I really suit a jumpsuit but for my shape (petite, short waisted) it needs to be very specific style that has a bit of volume up top to over emphasise my not hourglass shape.

the phase eight burgundy number would be perfect the leaf print one dreadful.

Dragonscaledaisy · Today 14:45

Most people look awful in them and are deluded. Obviously everyone else is too polite to comment.

Honeyhonayboo · Today 14:46

A jumpsuit is just like a dress though, of course they don’t look bad on everyone. There are so many styles, lengths and cuts of jumpsuit.
I imagine it was a tactful way of making you feel better about this jumpsuit, ‘oh they never make anyone look good!’
But of course it’s not true.

I think it is more he was gently and politely telling her it doesn’t work for her.

im sure the op looks great in many outfits but thay jumpsuit is not one of them.

DramaAlpaca · Today 14:52

I used to wear them and look fabulous in them in the early 80s. Now, not so much so I don't go near them.

itsanamething · Today 14:54

I hope they suit me ... I've bought a few!

Fizbosshoes · Today 14:59

Im 4'10 and get jumpsuit envy because I see others looking great in them and have only ever found one that fitted (it was a kids one!)

Peonies12 · Today 15:01

I think they suit me, slim / short. I do think they suit many people, unfortunately that one in your pic doesn't really do you any favours - I think you could find a better one if you like them!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 15:10

I’ve got an expensive black short sleeve jumpsuit that I never wear. No idea why. It’s slimming. I also have somewhere (in attic I think) a Top Shop leaf print strappy jumpsuit that I wore a lot when I bought it. But they’re not my favourite type of clothes to wear I have to be honest.

I’m 5 ft 5, size 14 but long body and long legs.

Tamrastarr · Today 15:11

I love them and I have loads. Especially in the summer. I have casual and smart ones.I don't do the boilersuit look though!

Loubissou · Today 15:20

I have this one in a petite size 10. I get so many compliments. And it is dead easy to get on/off.

I have an wide leg wrap top one which I look great in. I'm a petite, size 16 hourglass and it cinches me in at the waist, broadens my top to balance my hips and I never fail to get compliments when I wear it.

Buggabootwo · Today 15:40

About 10 years ago I had a black one from Phase Eight which looked sensational. I can’t explain exactly why, but I have been trying to achieve the same look ever since yet somehow always manage to look like I have come to sort out the boiler. So yes, my view is that jumpsuit lightening only strikes once.

Waitingfordoggo · Today 15:47

I have a smart one that I’ve worn a few times and received lots of compliments on. I’m 5ft 3 with small bust and an athletic build if that’s relevant. However I don’t love wearing it because of the toilet issue, as I’m someone who needs a piss roughly every 90 minutes (and more frequently if I’ve had any alcohol).

JLou08 · Today 15:59

They suit people with small breasts and long legs. They're definitely not for everyone.

Mrsmessyhairdontcare · Today 16:00

I have a long body so they don't suit me (give me a camel toe) My daughter is 12 and is stunning in them. She loves a jumpsuit or playsuit..

Objectrelations · Today 16:04

Yeah I look good in them or have fairly often been complemented as looking ‘cool’ in mine. I’m 5ft 3 and fairly small but athletic build

thecatneuterer · Today 16:15

A size bigger, with a more supportive bra and no top underneath and that could look ok. I can't comment on jumpsuits in general. Generally, as with all other clothes, they look great on the tall, slim and young. On everyone else - it depends on the style and the person.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Today 16:16

I have a good figure but very short legs and I look like a precocious toddler in a jumpsuit. My youngest DD who is 5'11 which is mostly leg looks amazing. I think body proportions have a lot to do with it because I've seen larger ladies look brilliant in them and the very slim look awful.

hugasaurus · Today 16:19

I do think that one is not very flattering for your body. I have a few that I love to wear but that style on me wouldn’t look great just due to my proportions. I have a few with the wrap-style top halves and wide legs which I find very flattering.

Miyagi99 · Today 16:25

I think that particular one isn’t a good fit as (as you’ve said) it’s a bit low so not very flattering, however you still look cute in my opinion and would suit a better fitting one. This one is more like dungarees style.

No, not me, I look like I should be working the press in Prisoner Cell Block H 😂

😂

sohard · Today 16:31

They really suit me. I have loads and always get loads of compliments. Friends have tried to borrow them but they haven’t worked for them so clearly I just have an odd body shape!
