Count Binface has a genuine chance against Nigel Farage!

Sounds crazy but…

None of the major parties are competing…

Farage won Clacton with 46% of the vote…

If the 54% united together to vote for Binface, we could have the most preposterous election outcome of all time!

I reckon this could get some genuine momentum… all the other parties would LOVE this result, and even if they didn’t actively campaign for it, would surely quietly be gunning for Binface to win.

Don''t worry, Trump is bringing back communist to the describe lefties, others will soon follow suit.

I'm definitely a Red (not under the Bed) in Trump's eyes!

Which illustrates the problem. Holding left-wing views about economic redistribution don’t make someone a communist. Reform’s views - which I’m happy to join in as calling racist - don’t make them fascists.

And since racism on the left is a malignant tumour that doesn’t seem to respond to treatment, I’d be more careful than the left currently is about devaluing serious descriptions of political wickedness.

In any event, the other accusation tossed around against Reform is ‘racist’. I have no problem with that as a general label.

But it’s equally applicable to rank antisemites, who include the ‘pro’-Palestinian movement, notably of the left.

Just to clarify: you think being pro Palestine means being antisemitic?

Which kind of racism is solely leftwing?

There is indeed an accepted definition of fascism. The first defining characteristic bring 'far right'. You cant just reinvent language to suit yourself.
The terms for the extreme end of the left continuum are Communist or Anarchist.
(Side note, no one calls us lefties Commies anymore I've noticed. I quite miss that.)

I think that's because the communists expected everyone to work. Lefties now expect everyone to get benefits. It's like a new type of welfare revolution.

rolloverbeethoven · Today 14:51

But when he takes his bin off he's actually Keir Starmer.

Just to be clear, when people devote their protests to be against Israel, despite all the other problem and wrongs in the world, I think they’re clearly antisemites. There are many people on the left who have no interest in concerted protest against any state in the world but Israel. Which is the sole Jewish state.

Oh, it’s not solely left-wing. There are plenty of right-wing fools who share the left’s demonisation of others; for the purposes of this discussion we’re talking about Jews, but there’s plenty of other racial bigotry on the left.

The kind that Starmer was very proud to have reduced in the party in his resignation speech.

Criticising Israel for their actions in Gaza is not racism/hatred against Jews or anti Semitism.

No doubt there will be anti Semitism amongs the Pro Palenstine marches, just like there were neo nazis attending the Farage riots

In practice, yes, I’m afraid it is.

Israel is a demon to the left. It would be stupid to deny that obvious truth.

In the same way that wanting stronger restrictions on immigration isn’t of itself the mark of a racist - see Mahmood’s policies and Labour announcements trumpeting fewer applications, for example - you know when you hear a Reformite banging on about boats what they really mean. In the same way you know what ‘pro’-Pal activists and sympathisers really mean when they bang on about Israel.

That is your opinion, I disagree.

But let's get back to the thread subject

Yes, it’s my opinion. And I’m right.

But I’m in Binface’s corner so I’m happy to get back to the thread title.

SomersetBrie · Today 15:19

I'd love to have been a fly on Farage's wall (and it's not often I want to be anywhere near him) when he heard the main parties weren't standing.

And how fabulous that Binface seems to be a sensible intelligent human - when I saw him in Makersfield, I dismissed him straight away.
Now I see him as a real possible - even if he wasn't running against Farage.

I wonder how to get the disillusioned of Clacton out and voting.

I think that's because the communists expected everyone to work. Lefties now expect everyone to get benefits. It's like a new type of welfare revolution.

No, that's just a lie spread by the right.
I've never met a single left wing person who doesn't want everyone able to contribute to society to be doing so, to be living productive lives and rewarded for their labour.
Just because we tend not to see things in such simplistic terms as 'cut welfare', and are able to see the consequences of doing this without first ensuring that people are able to earn an alternative living, doesnt mean we support worklessness.
Most left wing people understand that there are people in our society who face barriers to work, due to health, disability or simply a lack of experience of the world of work.
If you were an employer, would you be rushing to employ someone who had to have numerous adjustments, multiple sick days, high levels of training, sometimes even in the basics?
We understand that this needs addressing before plunging people into destitution through benefit cuts, as it is a false economy when they go on to strain other more costly services such as social services, the NHS, the CJS.
We also know that much of our welfare bill goes on pensions and another hefty chunk on in work benefits. And that to reduce the income of those too old to work isn't popular at either end of the political spectrum. And that we can't reduce in work benefits without forcing employers to pay a great deal more in wages. Which is also seen as problematic.
So, no. The left do not want to a heavy welfare bill any more than the right. We just understand the solution is a little more complex than a soundbite.

I am in favour of Palestine as a state and against the Israeli government's campaign of genocide. I have no prejudice against individual Jews on the basis of their region or ethnicity. I am not antisemitic.

I don’t care if what you say about yourself is true or not. It makes no difference to the overwhelming truth of my point.

Anyway I’ve committed to returning to the subject of Farage and Binface.
