Which song do you turn up?

Inspired by a recent debate on 2 threads about the 'worst place to live in the UK' which was countered by an alternative 'best place to live in England', there was a thread titled 'what song do you turn off?'

So, I'd like to ask, which song do you turn UP (if you can)? A song that you could play anytime you feel like it, but if it comes on the radio in the car or you hear it out somewhere, gives you chills or puts a smile on your face?

My first one is 29 Palms by Robert Plant. It's such a 'radio song' and I LOVE radio. Some of aul Percy's earlier solo stuff was pure guff but, for me, this song has aged so so well. It's gorgeous, and it transports me back to young teenhood in the early 90s.

Kyrie by Mister Mister. So happy if it comes on he radio when I'm driving.

Also Cuddly Toy by Rochford - best played very loud.

Walk of Life - Dire Straits

One you might not expect, but I listen to Classic FM in the car, is the theme tune for Star Wars by the magnificent John Williams. There are few things more enjoyable than driving down a busy street with your windows down and that blasting out of your radio.😁The Raiders of the Lost Ark theme is equally as good, as is the Dance of the Knights by Prokofiev.

Oh I love music composed for movies. This is my all time favourite, not that you'll ever hear it on the radio. Again, early 90s!!

So many songs make me want to turn the volume up! My teens are always making me turn it down. But the one that draws the biggest smile is You Make Loving Fun by Fleetwood Mac.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/07/2026 12:41

Quite a few Dire Straits - back in the days of CD players in cars I’d only have a few discs one of which would be Brothers in Arms.

Then there’s things like Bat out of Hell - DH went through a Meatloaf phase after the latter died. There’s some songs which really aren’t meant to be played at a moderate volume.

Live It Up by Mental As Anything
You Get What You Give
Alone by Heart (in fact anything by Heart except their famous 1990 rock ballad)
500 Miles by The Proclaimers
Rasputin (prefer the newer version) by Boney M
Loads of others

Biffy Clyro has to be played loud especially the one that goes I'm a fire and I burn burn burn tonight. Couldn't remember the title 😅 any Pantera song for me though it's a rarity on the radio 😂
