Which song do you turn up?

Inspired by a recent debate on 2 threads about the 'worst place to live in the UK' which was countered by an alternative 'best place to live in England', there was a thread titled 'what song do you turn off?'

So, I'd like to ask, which song do you turn UP (if you can)? A song that you could play anytime you feel like it, but if it comes on the radio in the car or you hear it out somewhere, gives you chills or puts a smile on your face?

My first one is 29 Palms by Robert Plant. It's such a 'radio song' and I LOVE radio. Some of aul Percy's earlier solo stuff was pure guff but, for me, this song has aged so so well. It's gorgeous, and it transports me back to young teenhood in the early 90s.

Love 80s American hard core - Black Flag, Bad Brains, Hüsker Dü. Sorry Somehow gets turned up LOUD when I'm on my own & I belt it out & pretend I can sing

Black flag isn't the same without rollins.

I have the black flag tattooed onto my leg 🤭.

Cars and Girls or King of Rock and Roll - Prefab Sprout

I, in my late 40s, adore Prefab Sprout. When I was a kid they were just a pop band on TOTP. Now I can appreciate just how good the songs are. When Love Breaks Down, Bonny, Goodbye Lucille, Life of Surprises, Faron Young are all songs I love.
Paddy is a brilliant songwriter.

I just came on to say Ra Ra Rasputin as well. And Daddy Cool. Love Boney M.

Good for you, but I can’t stand Boney M. I love lots of different music but I draw a line at them.
You’ll get the last word though, because they will now be stuck in my head all night, keeping me awake. 😫

My kitchen filters were ace. They completely came to a standstill 3 times a day when she’s like the wind was played on the radio

the radio was really quiet I couldn’t hear it upstairs when I was working but I could hear them singing along

It's funny how many songs on this thread are also on the 'songs you turn off' thread!
For me - Brown Eyed Girl (VM has some incredible songs but I think this is awful!) and Zombie by The Cranberries. Might be something to do with being Irish (northern)!
Zombie is a cringe-fest.

Cars and Girls or King of Rock and Roll - Prefab Sprout

I went round America in a Greyhound bus and one of the stops was Albuquerque which was exciting

So many, but Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen definitely gets a 10 on the volume button. Best major to minor key change ever.

Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Ace of Spades - Motorhead

Fear Satan - Mogwai

Not Too Soon - Throwing Muses

Throwing Muses! That’s me away to the garage to look for my box of old CDs - I’ve got copies of “The Real Ramona” and “Hunkpapa” I haven’t played for years. Thanks for reminding me!

Another Quadrophenia favourite, “Love Reign Over Me”. Roger Daltrey’s vocal performance on this track is astonishing. Mine not so much.

Edited

It's an absolute banger; but the only problem for me is that, ever since the grandmother on an episode of The Kumars at No 42 described the problem of too-big pants disappearing up your bum as 'hungry arse syndrome', that's all I can hear now whenever that song is played Grin

Notinmylifethyme · Yesterday 12:23

Summertime, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

Takes me right back, every single time.

I loved the film watched it countless times and remember my first Vespa 50 special bought for £200 in 1981.

Could It Be Magic by Barry Manilow - an absolute belter of a beautiful song, based on a Chopin piano prelude. The orchestration! The violins! Fucking gorgeous.

WonderWeeksArentReal · Today 14:35

OMI - Cheerleader

Doesn't fit with my normal taste in music, but I always turn it up and sing along if it comes on the car radio.

Not the Take That version then? 😊

TOP volume - Atomic by Blondie.

Also like: Friday I’m in love by the Cure,
Hazard by Richard Marx
Road to Hell by Chris Rea
Its a sin Pet Shop Boys

and for listening to raptly Evergreen by Barbra Streisand. I just love the tune.

In the spirit of the Pet Shop Boys’ It’s a sin, I should also like at this time to bring the world’s attention to an old song, ‘In the year 2525’…. Google informs me it was by Zager and Evans!
