Oh, OK.

It’s largely a ceremonial role though.
Mohamud was born in Mogadishu. I wonder if Goodwin is channelling Trump.

DuncinToffee · 01/07/2026 18:34

The Reform candidate is also a private landlord (17 properties), no mention of that.

It will be all that family voting on the council what done it. Or just the process working exactly as it has done for every previous Lord Mayor.

My God, that is despicable.

Horrific, such bile spewing from his mouth shameful.

At the risk of being told I am obsessive by the MN Farage bottom sniffers, the i paper reports that:

Nigel Farage has reportedly told friends that he fears he'll face a by-election if he's found to have broken rules over his £5m undeclared gift

Farage obsessed, one of the 'I am not a Reform voter but' crowd favourites

In this case I would say 'don't get your hopes up'

Nigel Farage’s £4m property portfolio — and the transparency question

From ‘skint’ in 2017, the Reform UK leader now owns five mortgage-free homes with his partner Laure Ferrari. Only two have been declared to parliament

Good on the times for reporting this.
I expect to see headlines in the Express and the Mail shouting about this, any day soon (as per Phillips on, Raynor, Reeves et al. )

My favourite bit from the article.

"In 2015, a new rule was introduced requiring newly elected MPs to declare any benefits or financial support connected to their political activities in the year before an election. The change came following a recommendation from a European anti-corruption watchdog.

Alex Burghart MP, the shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, said: “It would be something of an irony if Nigel Farage was undone by anti-corruption advice from the Council of Europe."

This article has made me very angry when I was already not happy with Starmer's appeasement attitude towards Trump.
It's not just about the deal but the concealment. Is there a way out?

He was ‘skint’ in 2017?
Does that just mean Aaron Banks stopped paying for a house and car?

He’s been the useful pet of the wealthy for years. The only difference is where the money is coming from.

That’s appalling. Between that and the defence deficit Starmer’s left as he goes my disappointment with him has become real anger. So much for a safe pair of hands.

The only thing to make it worse would be the news that 'btw, I also agreed to sell NHS patient data to US drug companies'.

This story of the UK-US trade / pharmaceutical deal is not going away -as a classic example of why secrecy over such things is never ultimately a good idea, as well as being about the crucial new negotiation that is governments against companies

Great bit of investigative journalism - just a shame it will feed straight into the right wing playbook.
The real question for me is how the Home Office could get this particular person so wrong. (Yes I'm aware of the issue post Brexit - but the BBC found out about his French conviction...)

People smuggler convicted in France found by BBC living in Leicestershire and seeking asylum

Once described as "the godfather" of French migrant camps, he has been working in a Leicestershire village.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2026 08:44

Since Brexit, the UK no longer has a data-sharing agreement with many countries in the EU, making it more difficult to check criminal and immigration records of asylum seekers, according to Lucy Moreton of the Immigration Services Union.

"If we were able to share databases, even if just with our nearest neighbours, with Germany, with Belgium, with Holland and France, say - then, yes, we'd know that they had a conviction for people smuggling," she said.
