Women's rights general conversations - Thread 10

Continuation of Thread 9.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Did the writer get paid for expanding out a whole article from "stating the bloody obvious"? Grin

Here’s the mention of Sinner from a cut and pasted Tribunal Tweets in the MN thread:

I'm not going to link to it, but a Righteous poster started a thread in Site Stuff bewailing the evils of the Bad Place (i.e. FWR) and the Bad Wimmin speaking Bad Words therein. More Righteous posters turned up to agree with the OP, complaining that the Bad Words kept leaking out of the Bad Place into the rest of MN, when as everybody Good knows, there should be NoDebate.

Thing with the Bad Wimmin is, we don't stay where we are put. So now there's a lively ongoing NotNoDebate in Site Stuff Grin

In other news, the delightful Rbin Moia Wh*te posted on LinkedIn, in a commentary on an article about transwomen prisoners in Scotland being moved to male jails, "Trans people will not accept the segregation and othering that banishment to ‘third spaces’ à la Theresienstadt that the trans-haters think we will meekly accept."

Check out the section on additive language. Made we wonder how many trans men (women, obvs) give birth in the UK. Anyone know?

And nothing much new in any of the maternity reports recently. Still, I expect that lessons will be learned. Somewhere by somebody.

Good Morning Hello GIF

The Nottingham maternity reporting is just horrifying.

Akua Reindorf's contribution to the thread

My great-grandmother was in Theresienstadt. She had her camp number branded on her arm. She kept it covered or pressed against her body. I only heard her speak about it once, on her death bed at the age of 104. I can't express how disgusting this is from

I read something similar, a report on the vaginal mesh scandal possibly, it just had an apologetic paragraph at the start along the lines of the use of 'women' also included a few other odds and ends (possibly not that exact wording) then cracked on without all the constant repetition.

I'd think 'birthing people' to mean midwives, the doctors and the like.

Thanks Kuci.

I'm amused that it states 'And no. I won't leave.' but then, 735 posts and a day and half later, still hasn't returned to activity on the thread.

Don't think so. It's used for mothers who want to be blokes, I'm afraid. Which is why I wondered about the numbers here.

Yes, I only read a few bits of it and couldn't bear to see any more. Struggling to find words.

Same here. I can't help thinking that the culture and values in the NHS have become increasingly prejudiced against women.

Stonewall workplace awards and NHS Rainbow Badges scheme to which the majority of NHS trusts have signed up, explicitly demanded the removal of the word woman from patient and staff policies and procedures, including maternity policies. The alternatives such as ‘uterus havers’ and ‘pregnant people’ are demeaning and dehumanising to all women but have also become deeply embedded in the psyche and culture of the NHS in the last 15 years or so. Words and language have huge influence in the culture of any workplace so I feel there must be a connection.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 30/06/2026 17:15

Do you ever feel fobbed off with the NHS because of your sex?

It doesn't matter what symptoms I've had, countless times I've been told it's just menstrual / peri / menopause related depending on my age and to deal with it.

I was convinced I had endometriosis and was told countless times that I didn't and it was just normal menstrual stuff that I had to deal with.

I then developed PMDD and had to fight and fight and fight to get treatment for that (it's just bad PMT, you need to learn to live with it etc). Eventually I managed to get help that resulted in my having my uterus and ovaries removed.

In recovery after the op, the surgeon came round to see how I was and said "did you know you had endometriosis as well? Your ovaries were covered in it."

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 30/06/2026 18:27

Two of my colleagues have had that, Yorkshire. The pain they endured, and the extent of the operation(s) don’t bear thinking about. My sympathies, it’s horrid.

Pibs101 · 30/06/2026 20:36

I haven’t read the thread so apologies if this has been discussed a lot before or is seen as not on topic. You can delete if necessary.

Whatever happened to single sex spaces being available just because that is what some women and girls want or prefer? The constant need to justify it through important safety and safeguarding frustrates me. It should be enough that sometimes we just don’t want men around.

I am not downplaying the more important concerns of safety and privacy these are essential. But same sex spaces (including men’s same sex spaces) are not a bad or wrong thing just in themselves.

I know it’s a fantasy to want to go back to those days when same sex spaces were common but it does get me riled up. I hope I explained myself as I’m not as articulate as others on this board.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2026 20:47

I think you make a very good point. I think they find it a lot harder to argue with the privacy and dignity arguments where they can’t really handwave it away as a tiny risk. So that’s what I’ve always concentrated on, and I think that makes broadly the same point you are.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2026 20:49

I think when it comes to associations and there are few privacy and dignity concerns the argument that sometimes we just need a space without men is a good one.

I don't think it warrants it's own thread. Missing a few details that might be useful; age, height, sex. I hope Ajay is found safe.
