Unique Nicknames for Henry?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mulledjuice · 06/07/2026 22:18

What's the surname? What does he look like?

People (or their parents) can't really choose their nicknames despite MN appearing to believe they can.

notatinydancer · 06/07/2026 22:19

Nicknames evolve.

BigWillieStyIe · 06/07/2026 22:19

Hal?

RoseField1 · 06/07/2026 22:20

Why?

Tonissister · 06/07/2026 22:21

I've known Henrys who go by Hen and Hal. Could also be Aitch or Hey, Hennie, Hallie or Herry.

Vitrolinsanity · 06/07/2026 22:22

Hank it Harry, but you cannot push a nickname. My own is Pud by my parents and aunties as I weighed 10lb5 as a baby. Geg because my sister couldn’t say my name. And. Derivation of both my maiden and married surnames by friends.

Needmorelego · 06/07/2026 22:24

Nicknames evolve.
If you want something unique it could literally be anything.
You don't just pick one.
Nicknames are things like -
Barty (because he farts a lot and you started calling him Farty Barty) or
Lemonboy (because the yellow babygro you dressed him in looked hilariously like a lemon).
(Two completely random nicknames I just made up)

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 06/07/2026 22:30

Yeah I’m with previous posters. It’ll be Zoomer or Alphadoink after a tv character or Hoppy or something else totally unpredictable. You can choose the name, but the nickname is almost by definition a reaction to something about him or popular culture of the day.

I know it's a typo, but Hank-it-Harry is an awesome nickname!! Please use this one OP!

Firebird83 · 06/07/2026 22:34

Hank or Hal

GotALionInMyPocket · 06/07/2026 22:34

Hazza

pastadish · 06/07/2026 22:35

I think nicknames only really work if you want to call your child Beth but choose Elizabeth as it’s a family name and so they go by Beth from the start. Although it doesn’t always work because through school and work etc their name is down as Elizabeth and people will call them Elizabeth then shorten it to Liz or something.
Nicknames are something that just evolve. My dc nicknames have either nothing to do with their names or are something no normal person would think was a nickname for their name.

GotALionInMyPocket · 06/07/2026 22:35

Hez

NuffSaidSam · 06/07/2026 22:35

You could go with H plus his middle initial...e.g. HJ. Tbh I don't think Henry lends itself to any nice shortenings really.

Nicknames are often unrelated to the actual name. In my time I've known:

Munch (Alexander)
Muffy (Rosie)
Panda (Harriet)
Burger (Billy)
BB (Matilda)
Buzz (Aaron)
Smoosh (Another Matilda)

Floppyearedlab · 06/07/2026 22:36

Why can’t he just be Henry? Great name.

What is the obsession with naff nicknames?

ClearFruit · 06/07/2026 22:36

My Henry is 13 and is Harry, Haz, or Hazza.

lostdontknowwhattodo · 06/07/2026 22:36

Henrooo, Big H, Henners

MistakenFlutterby · 06/07/2026 22:38

Henrys are usually Harry. I also know one who is Hal and two who are called “H”.

My DH was known all his school days by a nickname entirely unrelated to his name. My own nickname was derived very loosely from my name but not in a way my parents would ever have imagined.

We don’t use the nickname for my DD we planned before she was born.

My DS asked us to use only his full name when he was about 4 yo.

You can pick any nickname you like for your baby - chances of it actually being used are 50:50 at best.

Jk987 · 06/07/2026 22:39

Hazza

MistyMountainTop · 06/07/2026 22:42

OliveHenry · 06/07/2026 22:46

My Henry is known as Henge, Hendroid Bendroid, and occasionally "you little git."

Also a cat 😀

Sturdykettle · 06/07/2026 22:48

Posters are being very literal. The OP was obviously asking about diminutives of the name Henry.

Elizabeth, for example has a great deal:

Liz, Lizzie, Lizzy, Libby, Liza, Lisa, Lily, Lilibet, Elsa, Elsie, Eliza, Elspeth, Beth, Betty, Betsy, Bette, Bess, Bessie, Buffy etc.

OneNewEagle · 06/07/2026 22:54

It’s normally Harry like prince harry.

ManyATrueWord · 06/07/2026 22:59

Hoover. Little sucker.

Harry, Hal, Henners, Henny, Ri.
