Frankie or Brynn for baby girl?

I prefer Frankie but my concern is it's more popular. We like uncommon names.
Brynn is very uncommon in our country.

They are both boys names. If they're short for Francesca or Brianna, for example, then Frankie. But please give her a version of the name that people recognise as female.

Where we live frankie is far more common for girls. Also girls with boys names doesn't bother me at all and in fact that was my original goal but all the ones I liked are already taken by my partners family.

The name Bryn does not have a double "n" at the end. It's welsh for "hill"

Yes traditional Welsh spelling (male) is Bryn. But we'd go with Brynn for a girl.

It might bother your daughter. Brynn for a girl is ridiculous.

Viviennemary · 05/07/2026 21:48

Both are dire.

flagpolesitta · 05/07/2026 21:55

Frankie is lovely. Bryan just makes me think of uncle Bryn, never heard it on a girl.

Giraffehaver · 05/07/2026 21:58

Sorry but as stand alone names I really dislike them. Brynn is particularly ugly and autocorrects to Bryan

NormasArse · 05/07/2026 21:59

I can’t get past Uncle Bryn, especially as I actually had an uncle called Bryn.

Briony or Briar?

Frankie is ok.

RosalieRosa · 05/07/2026 22:00

Francesca shortened to Frankie is really cute! Don't do Brynn

midlifeattheoasis · 05/07/2026 22:01

Neither

Scaryspicer · 05/07/2026 22:01

Bryn is so ugly for a girl. With a random double n it’s even uglier!

Frankie is fine.

Stevie is my favourite boys as girls name though I love it!

timoteigirl · 05/07/2026 22:01

Both names make me think the parents wish they had had a son.

They do not live in Wales.

I doubt she will be bothered.

sallyluyah · 05/07/2026 22:04

Neither.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/07/2026 22:19

Well, I’m not a fan of either tbh. However, Frankie is better than Brynn. If only because Brynn is not a girls name, and isn’t spelled with a double -n (and really only works if you are Welsh).

MyIcyHeart · 05/07/2026 22:19

Bryn for a Welsh boy is rather lovely.
Brynn for a girl is a really poor choices, lacking in class/taste.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 05/07/2026 22:22

I dislike both especially Bryan. It’s bad enough for a boy never mind a girl.

Doveyouknow · 05/07/2026 22:25

Frankie is ok. Bryn is a name I think of as in the same bracket as Brian or Trevor - you imagine a middle age man. It is unusual for a baby girl so she will probably be unique.

noonames · 05/07/2026 23:05

I was going to say Bryn is a bit of an old codger name to me. It would be like calling a little girl Keithh or Derekk or Colinn.

And @flagpolesitta has just proved your point with the autocorrect lol

pottershell · 05/07/2026 23:07

Would you consider Bri? (Said like the cheese) I love that name
Don’t really like the two you have picked sorry

thejelliclecats · 05/07/2026 23:07

I love Frankie.

And you've just reminded me why I never usually post on these forums. People have a real hard time being kind huh.

Brynn is awful
