Which in your opinion is the poshest name? Oscar, George, Henry, Max, or Leo?

I have a view, but I'm intrigued as to why it matters? Someone who is genuinely "posh" would never use that actual word (they would say "smart"), and really wouldn't care.

hyggetyggedotorg · 05/07/2026 16:18

George I suppose. But why? Do you want “posh” or are you trying to avoid it?

MrsKateColumbo · 05/07/2026 16:19

None of them, they are all just normal Boy names in DS and DD's class. Maybe they were posh a generation ago but now they are just popular boys names

I wouldnt aay any oif those are posh. They are pretty standard boys names who are currently in high school.

Nickyknackered · 05/07/2026 16:20

Gosh the whole baby names page is full of you asking the same question about the same names. Curious why not one thread with one conversation with all your ideas together?

Blimms · 05/07/2026 16:25

None of them, they’re pretty bog standard names. I have come across them often at the school I work in which is definitely not posh.

Ibi · 05/07/2026 16:26

None of them. They’re just regular boys names.

Namesnamesnames13 · 05/07/2026 16:30

Just curiosity

There’s a lot more to being posh than a name, op.
If you have to try this hard…

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/07/2026 16:32

None of them sound posh, they are just bog standard boy names. You could throw a stone and hit two Oscar’s, Max’s or Henry’s near me. Leo less common but not close to sounding posh

Namesnamesnames13 · 05/07/2026 16:33

I’m not trying to be posh…I’m just curious. Just intrigued after a conversation I had a colleague about how they view names and how they judged them…hadn’t even crossed my mind until then!

I note that on another thread you said you already have a Leo and a Henry. Are you questioning your naming decisions and wish you’d gone for something that others think sound ‘posh’?

SparkyBlue · 05/07/2026 16:36

I would say George and Henry are classics that have always been in fashion

Bluespottedfrog · 05/07/2026 16:36

My dog is called Max and hi is not posh.

Namesnamesnames13 · 05/07/2026 16:37

No!

OP posts:
Pistachiocake · 05/07/2026 16:39

Oscar.
Leo least (got very popular years ago after the X-factor man). Not heard of the "full" version of this for years, unless you count Leonard from Big Bang.
Henry was, not so much now. Ditto George. The full version of Max was, but again, all 3 of these names could now be any class.
Henry and George will probably be the most classic, as in could be any generation, like James, Luke etc, if that bothers you.

Blimms · 05/07/2026 16:40

Namesnamesnames13 · 05/07/2026 16:37

No!

Can I ask why you didn’t mention some of the names you listed in your OP were names you had chosen for you sons? Anyway, it’s not bad to have a name that is common among all social groups.

ButtercupYellow26 · 05/07/2026 16:42

None. They are all pretty common names now.

Moveoverdarlin · 05/07/2026 16:47

Henry. But they are all what I would call nice boys names.

Your colleague is right, you do judge names.

Henry, George give different vibes to Riley and Jayden.

My dog is called Max and hi is not posh.

My DS is called Max, as rough as .
If I call him "Maximillion" I can up his status . (I wish)

Excellentsausages · 05/07/2026 17:32

All very popular. Used by all types of people, some posh, some not. There won't be a primary school in the country without most of those represented at least once.

Oscar, George and Leo are top 10 names. Henry 12th. Max 44th but that's probably offset by those who are Maximilians and Maxwells etc.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 05/07/2026 18:05

If I had to pick, I'd say Henry but I could definitely think of 'posher' names. The ones you've listed are all nice enough, popular boys names round here.

Veronyk · 05/07/2026 18:09

My cat was called Leo and he was dead posh.

boysmuminherts · 05/07/2026 18:11

Henry and George are royal family names so maybe they are the most posh?
But I know normal boys with both those names!
