Going away for school holidays & nobody to do the bins?

gardenhenn · Today 12:27

We are taking DC away for a significant amount of time during the 6 weeks holidays and will have nobody to do the bins.

Have asked my parents as they live 25 minutes away but have said it's too far and they also workZ

Siblings/cousins also work and have their own kids to look after and would be unfair as again live 25 minutes away in the same town as parents.

Now, I have never had an argument or falling out with neighbours.

But there is tension due to the varying issues around this estate and I don't speak to my NDN on the right ( I would do her bins at times but she has stopped saying hello/speaking to everyone which suits me fine as she makes me feel uncomfortable).

I do exchange small talk/ hello with the other and get on OK but form feel comfortable asking her.

We genuinely don't know what to do.
Anybody been in a similar situation?

The only solution would be to leave the bins until we get back?

If no one is around then you won’t generate any rubbish?

IsThisACrazyThoughtDec25 · Today 12:29

Take it all to the tip.the day before you go?

gardenhenn · Today 12:29

The thing is it's the recycling bin collection that will be missed, it's half full already and we will miss the collection for that.

I’m also confused as to why the bins need doing if you’re not going to be there?

Ace56 · Today 12:30

If you mean just the one collection just after you leave, then take it to the dump/recycling centre before you go. Or to a public bin. No big deal!

Whatisbest26 · Today 12:30

Just take any rubbish you have to a recycling centre / tip before you go away and then you won’t need to put the bins out for 6 weeks whilst you’re not there.

cadburyegg · Today 12:30

Leave the bin out before you go

gardenhenn · Today 12:30

The general waste bin was just collected so by the time we go in a few weeks it will be half full.

Won't be back until end August.

If it’s clean recycling then just leave it till you get back! Or do a tip run before you leave

MermaidG · Today 12:31

empty the bin in an untied sack and go to the local recycling centre and pour the contents in!

AgnesMcDoo · Today 12:31

You ask the nicer neighbour you can and offer to return the favour in the future.

or pick a neighbour with a teenager and offer to pay them.

24Dogcuddler · Today 12:32

Can you just take your waste to the recycling centre/ tip before you go and add some disinfectant to bins or eco friendly powder or something?
Have a great time.

Kaidaia · Today 12:34

Do you have a local Facebook group or WhatsApp group. Maybe ask if local teenager would be interested in sorting your bins for a small fee

It doesn't matter...

Lot's of options.

You could ask your next door neighbour.

You could bag it and take it to the tip.

You could double bag the whole lot, taking additional care to seal up any stuff that might smell in advance.

You could clean everything before you throw it away, and bury food scraps that might go off in the garden or a compost heap.

You could make sure you put zero nasty stuff in there.

You could bag it up and take it to your parents so you drive the 25 mins and not them.

Buscake · Today 12:38

Try asking a neighbour. You are assuming it will be a no, but worth asking?!

AnonyMumAuDHD · Today 12:41

I would take your household waste to the municipal tip before you leave, tbh. Tarp in the boot, open all the windows. All sorted. It’s what we’ve done after xmas if we have too much and the excess won’t keep for another 2 weeks.

Recycling etc can wait.

Betadelta · Today 12:42

Do you have any friends with older children (teens)? You could pay them to come walk/cycle over to take out the bins.

Just leave it until you get back.

Yetone · Today 12:49

I think you are being a bit of a CF if you expect people to drive over just to do your bin.
Go to the tip/recycling centre the day before you leave.

Itwillbefinehonestly · Today 12:51

Just ask a neighbour for do the refuse one. The others don't matter. Or Go to council tip with bags before your holiday

SweepSqueaks · Today 12:51

GoodkneeBadKnee · Today 12:36

It doesn't matter...

So don’t put it in there and it won’t be half full. Take it to the tip instead.

jputthekettleon · Today 12:54

are there any house sitter type businesses near you that can check on your house when you’re away, do the bins and have some essentials in the fridge when you get back? People use them if they have plants to water etc

upupandaway45 · Today 12:54

Why don’t you just leave the bins out on the end of your drive when you leave

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Today 12:56

I would just leave the bins at the spot they’re collected from. Or go to the tip before you leave. Or you can even pay a waste collection company if needs be.

Doesn’t need to be done by way of a free favour from family or friends.
