To expect to lose any weight in 4 weeks?

SuperSoft1 · Yesterday 18:06

Right.
Just booked a last minute holiday to Turkey in exactly 28 days time.
Shit. I need to lose some weight.
How much can I REALISTICALLY expect to lose in 28 days starting now?
I'm 48
5ft 7
12 stone 9 pounds
Slim arms, slim legs, slim face, don't have a big bum.
Huge gigantic abdomen.
I look 9 months pregnant at all times.
But not from the back.
My abdomen extends from right under bust down to pelvis. And this is where all my weight is.
I look like a toffee apple.
So how much do you think I can lose and what's the fastest most effective way to do it???
Work FT sedentary job and highly demanding teen and tween at home so please no suggestions of daily gym workouts - I genuinely can't fit it in to the next month.
I need dietary advice.
Thank you in advance!

I have had this my entire life, It’s just where I carry my weight. Slim everywhere else but with a big fat pregnant-looking stomach if I am even a little overweight.

Me too. It's a pest, especially for clothing. Nothing looks good on me any more 😭

To add to this I didn’t actually feel too hungry doing this either!

I don’t usually have brekkie so I would combine the breakfast and lunch portions to have as one which probably helped

@whoevenknow - curious if you had to measure how much per serving or it was how much you wanted?! might do this for a wedding later on in the year....

Apply a bit of science - First thing to do is calculate your daily calorie intake at the moment, dont guess!! there are plenty of websites with food calorie lists. Look for "excess" calories you can lose, a slice of bread, smaller portions, you will be surprized where they are hiding. Try and reduce your calorie intake by 500 a day, 7 days x 500 = 3500 calaries = 1 lb in body fat. I have done it it works...

Totaldramallama · Today 08:25

Sorry op I don't know if anyone else has said this but your opening post rang alarm bells for me. Your body shape is indicative of a more serious health issue rather than being overweight. In particular you could be well on your way to type 2 diabetes as storing excess weight around your abdomen like this is a sign on an insulin issue. If this is the case dieting won't do much, especially in 28 days and you should see a doctor

LovesLabradors · Today 08:38

I see you're toying with the idea of WLI - I would also recommend this (long term as well as short term).
It took about 6 days to get my first MJ prescription delivered, and I lost a stone in the first month. I've been on it over a year now - and the magic is that I have continued losing, I'm now in a healthy BMI range and the weight hasn't just piled back on. Before MJ I could lose the weight short term with incredible effort, but I couldn't sustain the weight loss.
I know not everyone has the good results I had on MJ, some people lose it a bit more slowly - but the majority seem to have very good weight loss. It is truly life changing.

Pllystyrene · Today 08:39

The general rule is a 3500 calorie deficit is roughly 1lb weight loss. I'd recommend using an online Macro calculator to get your macros and calories, and tracking everything you eat on a app. Then you'll get a realistic goal xX

LovesLabradors · Today 08:43

ps. the difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy (apart from price!) is that MJ reportedly has fewer side effects (which is why I chose it a year ago, before the price hikes), and affects 2 GLP receptors, whereas Wegovy only affects one. MJ appears to be slightly more effective because of this, but obviously a lot more expensive. I think you'd get good results on either - I've stuck with MJ purely because I get such good results, and don't want to change it up now.

combine keto and intermittent fasting
High protein, healthy fats and bowls and bowls
of low carb veg and salad
Avoid all carbs
Greek yoghurt is excellent for breakfast and desserts
Avoid fruit apart from berries are ok
Stop eating early evening and don’t start again until 11am / midday but then eat to satisfaction in the eating window
Drink GALLONS of water or herbal tea
You should ‘depuff’ as well as lose a tonne of water weight

best advice - do this

best advice - do this

Yes this is what I’m doing. I’ve gone from 63kg to 55.6kg in a month! And I feel so much better digestion wise. Weight loss was never my main goal it’s a great bonus though 🙌🙌

loveavoucher · Today 09:30

Where your fat is placed it’s visceral fat, which is actually the dangerous fat as it sits around your organs.

Research visceral fat and how to lose it. My H lost all his by eating lean non processed meats (like turkey) and vegetables. He used a Joe Wicks recipe book and I think that he also used a vegan 🤢 recipe book too. He lost a couple of stone of belly fat in 6 months.

I’d give the lean meats a try with vegetables. Porridge with blueberries for breakfast. Fruit and zero fat Greek yogurt for lunch. You should at least lose 8lb in 28 days from this.

It was supposed to be a ‘serving’ of it but I wasn’t super careful. I would sometimes have a little extra if I was very hungry that day.

Obviously if you stick to the exact serving size (20g portion I think off the top of my head) you’ll lose more, but I would often have a combined 50g ish portion as breakfast and lunch, along with fruit. That kept me quite full until dinner time without needing a snack. I was quite overweight at the time as well and could easily eat a big lunch and have snacks etc.

id say deffo well worth it for a few weeks stint to lose for a specific event! I genuinely didn’t suffer on it. But obviously not super sustainable long term so you’ll likely put on again afterwards, unless you start a long term diet at some point too :)

I think the diet might actually allow 2 snacks a day too, but as I was having fruit with mine I kind of counted that as the snack!

Weekly lymphatic drainage massages will help a lot

mumumental · Today 09:46

I have lost half a stone in the last 6 weeks, including a week on holiday. I mostly avoided carbs, puddings and drinking too much, although I had a few glasses of wine in total.

Morepositivemum · Today 09:48

TBH, I wouldn't go mad dieting, maybe cut right back on the things you KNOW are the culprits for you! What would that be, snacking at night, alcohol, chocolate, too many spuds etc. Then cut them out and carry on eating as normal. Four weeks is a very short time to lose a lot, so don't stress too much about it.
Honestly, life is too short, get a lovely cover up or two and waft your way around the resort. Big hat and nice sunnies, fake tan and you're good to go.

This op, but also I knew what my vices were (fizzy drinks, croissants and crisps), and I cut these out for a few weeks and halved bread (other vice), and drank more water and I lost a few pounds, didn’t look (as) pregnant and was practically strutting!

Along with the great diet advice it's worth getting your posture checked. A hip tilt/pelvic tilt will give you more tummy and that pregnant look. Try googling it but unfortunately the photos to demonstrate usually show very slim models.

I'd been despairing at my tummy which I assumed was simply another peri menopause side effect that I had to live with, when my osteopath simply corrected my posture.

Edited

Hi, could you say more about how your osteopath did that? I was thinking one had to exercise ones way out of it, ongoingly.

Difficult to describe but he literally straightened me out in one session. Might be best to ring around a few and ask about it.

Hi OP. My daughter and I are both Coeliac, and we both have the swollen distended belly you describe. Some days it is worse than others. It sucks. 😘

Have you investigated enzymatic therapy or specific probiotic strains. I think dr willliam Davis has written a book or two that covers this.

WhisperingHi · Today 12:54

Im a small 12/large 10, and have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks of low calorie eating, which is easy in this hot weather!

Lots of fruit, crackers, summer rolls, naughty snacks, less bread. It’s been easy and my appetite has already rapidly reduced. Would be harder in the winter I’m sure!

FiloPasty · Today 12:59

I also agree with doing the following
See you GP for blood tests - are you on any medication, HRT etc sometimes something can be out of kilter.
See an osteopath, agree that some changes and corrections to posture can work miracles
Fast 2 a weeks one v healthy meal protein & veg those days with a lot of water.
Try and walk every day.
after the first week book yourself a lymphatic drainage massage, works wonders.

Yes I wonder the same thing too.
I already have to live on a very restricted diet yet remain centrally obese.
It's depressing to the extreme.
The reason I don't drink alcohol is because I have a lot of anxiety and 4 years ago I worked out that drinking made it significantly worse so I cut it out and feel so much better without it that I haven't had a drink since.
My Coeliac medically prevents me from eaten gluten, it makes me medically ill causing painful bowel inflammation, so that cuts out most carbs except potatoes, rice and fruit.
Lactose makes me so ill that I can't possibly eat it. I get gastro upset for days afterwards if I do.
So yes, it's beyond depressing to eat in such a restricted way yet still look 9 months pregnant with an overweight BMI.

My good friend has similar issues.

It is why I get really cross about posters on here with their judgmental vitriol about obesity. We all have different bodies with different challenges.

Honestly, your diet sounds abstemious already.

OneHangryHiker · Today 13:03

The safest way to cut calories is meal replacement shakes. You’ve got all the vitamins in them.

A friend of mine used shake that weight when she had to lost weight when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I think less bread is a game changer.

I am not coeliac or gluten intolerant, but I do find I lose water weight fast without bread or pasta.

Without wanting to be negative about your loss, I suspect much of that is water weight.

But still, it is useful for people wanting a quick debloat!
