To expect to lose any weight in 4 weeks?

SuperSoft1 · Yesterday 18:06

Right.
Just booked a last minute holiday to Turkey in exactly 28 days time.
Shit. I need to lose some weight.
How much can I REALISTICALLY expect to lose in 28 days starting now?
I'm 48
5ft 7
12 stone 9 pounds
Slim arms, slim legs, slim face, don't have a big bum.
Huge gigantic abdomen.
I look 9 months pregnant at all times.
But not from the back.
My abdomen extends from right under bust down to pelvis. And this is where all my weight is.
I look like a toffee apple.
So how much do you think I can lose and what's the fastest most effective way to do it???
Work FT sedentary job and highly demanding teen and tween at home so please no suggestions of daily gym workouts - I genuinely can't fit it in to the next month.
I need dietary advice.
Thank you in advance!

You could lose a stone

Low carb, no alcohol, 1200 cals per day

Wickedlittledancer · Yesterday 21:33

If it’s your tummy I suspect like I had you’ve high cortisol and poor insulin response.

when’s the last time your blood pressure was checked.

if you want to lose the tummy forget things like special k diet, it’s an advertising campaign for a breakfast cereal.

go keto.20g or less of carbs a day. Low fat. Low sugar. Your stomach will shrink back fast and the weight will fall off.keep your cals to 1200.

nut you will gain it all back. So will need to take bigger clothes with you. Same for any way you do it if you attempt rapid weight loss.

Thanks everyone!
I appreciate all your advice.
I'm teetotal, I last had alcohol 4 years ago. I'm not going to be drinking over the next month and I won't on holiday.
I don't eat processed foods, none whatsoever. Everything is home cooked with fresh ingredients.
I'm Coeliac so don't eat bread, cakes, biscuits, puddings - nothing with gluten in or it makes me seriously ill. Definitely couldn't eat SpecialK or any cereals as all contain gluten.
I'm lactose intolerant so don't have milk, cheese, yogurt, chocolate, ice cream, cream, etc. Lactose intolerance is linked with being Coeliac.
So I think I'm going to go for the Keto approach!
And maybe I ought to consider combining it with WLI for a month....
Thank you everyone for replying 🙏
I HATE my swollen bloated fat middle section. Hate it.

Mounjaro, seriously. I’ve only been on it a week and I am already 4lb down (I appreciate this will be water weight initially). It makes dieting so much easier at it suppresses your appetite and you feel satisfied on very low calories.

Thank you.
What dose are you on?

I’ve been losing 4-5 pounds a month aided by Wegovy since March and not found it hard. I track my calories and keep to 1300-1500 a day. I’m 76 and pretty sedentary a lot of the time but I have built in a walk of 4000 - 6000 steps a day . This takes less than half an hour to get 4000 of those in and the rest is just normal movement around the house.

Quickest weight loss diet I ever went on was in the 70s. Basically you ate only protein, no carbs, for the first two weeks and added very low-carb food (e.g. berries, leafy veg) after that. Not sustainable for the long haul and made me very constipated.

Wegovy......I'm so interested in the difference between MJ and Wegovy.....if you are losing 4 or 5 pounds a month on Wegovy then why is everyone using Mounjaro instead?
It's much more expensive....
Please could you tell me what dose Wegovy you take to lose this much weight?

I'm kind of wondering how you even have a tummy with no alcohol, cheese, chocolate, ice-cream, bread, cakes or puddings!

I'd be like a stick if I managed to avoid all that! What do you think is giving you belly fat? Because those are all the usual culprits.

Loads of decent advice here. Realistically, anything from 2 to 10 lbs, depending on loads of things. But my comment (as someone with exactly the same issue) is no white bread / biscuits (processed carbs) and the likes. It might be just me, but even if I lose a few pounds, cutting out white carbs gives an advantage in the stomach area that is beyond the weight loss. Also switch alcohol if you are a cider / beer drinker to something that is lower in sugar. Without knowing the science behind it, some things just bloat you. x

JustSawJohnny · Today 02:38

Keto usually cuts weight fast, initially.

You could probably lose a stone in a month, plus the bloaty carb belly, if you suffer with such.

The initial super strict no sugars at all is the kicker.

I have friends who do it but I'm not a meat fan and I don't want to live without cherry tomatoes or fruit so I usually opt for shakes but I do think keto is a much healthier option.

High protein done properly and intermittent fasting combined lost me weight rapidly that stayed off

I am in the USA so I’ve been able to get the pill since March. They started me on a 1.5mg daily dose for six weeks to make sure I didn’t have a reaction to it, and since then I”ve been on 4mg a day. I have an appointment at the weight management clinic in early August so we’ll see if they want to bump me up to the next dose, which is 9mg. However I’m very happy losing at the rate I’m going so I wouldn’t mind staying on the lower dose.

Sartre · Today 06:45

You’re my height, I don’t look big at that weight but I guess it’s because we have different body shapes- I’m an hourglass so weight is distributed evenly and I have a defined waist. I recently dropped just over a stone in a month. I’d been drinking and the weight had crept up. I’m a long distance runner but nevertheless when you drink a bottle of red wine most nights and eat junk food when drunk, it creeps up.

I did the 5:2 diet so two days a week I’d eat 500 cals and 5 days 1300. As I say, I also run 3x a week and lift weights 3x a week. Plus stopped drinking entirely and it flew off.

You’re a stone overweight, you don’t need WLI.

ChicGreyZebra · Today 06:52

limit carbs to 20g a day and you can lose a stone in a month. Plenty of electrolytes the first few days or you will feel awful!

Yes I wonder the same thing too.
I already have to live on a very restricted diet yet remain centrally obese.
It's depressing to the extreme.
The reason I don't drink alcohol is because I have a lot of anxiety and 4 years ago I worked out that drinking made it significantly worse so I cut it out and feel so much better without it that I haven't had a drink since.
My Coeliac medically prevents me from eaten gluten, it makes me medically ill causing painful bowel inflammation, so that cuts out most carbs except potatoes, rice and fruit.
Lactose makes me so ill that I can't possibly eat it. I get gastro upset for days afterwards if I do.
So yes, it's beyond depressing to eat in such a restricted way yet still look 9 months pregnant with an overweight BMI.

You’re a stone overweight, you don’t need WLI.

When I weighed 11stone 5 last year, I was in the 'healthy' BMI range but it was the upper end of healthy and I was still covered in handfuls of fat all over my upper body.
I felt and looked like I needed to lose at least another stone to get slim, despite having a supposedly healthy BMI.

I'm on a total meal replacement programme that says average weight loss is a stone in a month. Someone else in the weight loss thread stated that this was the result for them using this programme. I guess there are multiple ways to lose a stone! It's actually doing it that I find difficult! Best of luck, OP!

Kitchenbattle · Today 07:37

I have just lost over a stone by reducing my carbs to about 50g per day eating more protein/veg etc and doing 16:8 Intermittent fasting too. Like you @SuperSoft1 i was very bloated, I was diagnosed coeliac last year and this is the only thing that works for my system. I’m no longer bloated and I actually have energy.

Kitchenbattle · Today 07:40

Try the IF @SuperSoft1 i has be my brunch at 10am and then my dinner at 5-6pm and that’s it.

FedUpCelery · Today 07:59

Along with the great diet advice it's worth getting your posture checked. A hip tilt/pelvic tilt will give you more tummy and that pregnant look. Try googling it but unfortunately the photos to demonstrate usually show very slim models.

I'd been despairing at my tummy which I assumed was simply another peri menopause side effect that I had to live with, when my osteopath simply corrected my posture.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 08:04

During 3 weeks in hospital, when all the ABs made everything - even a cup of tea - taste weird or horrible, I lost at least 5 kg.

Not that I’m recommending that particular method….

Serfdum · Today 08:04

Sartre · Today 06:46

You’re a stone overweight, you don’t need WLI.

I disagree.

I am ‘only a stone overweight’ - but, realistically - I need to lose at least 2 stone so that I am comfortably in the healthy category for BMI. When you have less to lose, your calories need to be much, much lower than somebody who is bigger. For me to lose weight, I need to be having 1200 calories a day (confirmed by working out my TDEE). That was impossible to stick to, and would lead to severe restriction for a week or two and then binging as I was so starving. Mounjaro has transformed that, I can easily stick to 1200 most days because my appetite has reduced and I can feel full from a plate of salad and chicken.

I am on 2.5mg (the starting dose), have been for a week and can honestly say I think it’s incredible. I’m hoping I can just stick to the lower doses to get to where I need to be.

Thundertoast · Today 08:05

What do you think might be causing your tummy as im also curious, do you think its volume of food?
Must admit I had a bit of a light bulb moment a while back where I realised for me personally, the dieting approach of 'eat a fuckton of fruit and veg to bulk out meals' did not work because it bloated me like mad, even after months of trying to adjust. I do much better focusing on protein and keeping my portion sizes sensible regardless of if they are made up of veg or carbs. We are all so different, a friend of mine does so well with giant salads etc and gets on really well with that approach!

HeidiLite · Today 08:10

Keto/low carb would do it for me. High protein diets will allow you to keep more of muscle mass even when losing weight.
I would also suggest a check up, especially if the big stomach is a new thing and you have not always been naturally apple shaped. Just in case.

Ethelspagetti · Today 08:13

Im probably going to get flamed for this, but I will preface this with: it’s clearly not healthy or sustainable long term but works as a quick fix.

A few years ago I wanted to lose weight fast for a holiday. I did the Special K diet. You can google it but the idea is Special K cereal for breakfast and lunch then a ‘normal’ dinner (but a smallish portion). i added fruit to my cereal just to make sure I was having enough of my five a day. Drink loads of water too.

I went down a dress size in 2 weeks and it was quite noticeable. I’d do it again for a similar situation.

obviously you can’t do it forever but it is genuinely a great quick fix to quickly lose weight before an event.

when you come back you’d need to properly look into a healthy diet, calorie deficit and gym workouts etc, but I’m sure you know that!

I did the same thing but with bran flakes and I lost a stone in a month. But it all went back on afterwards. You need to cut out all junk.
