Trouble at Mermaids?

DearestGentleReader90 · Yesterday 16:05

Hi everyone,

I have been a long term campaigner against Trans organisations and in particular Mermaids, after my 16 daughter became involved in their service and attended a radical event without my consent or knowledge. They 'empowered' her to basically not listen to any of my advice and do whatever she wants.
A friend of mine has reason to believe that there is trouble brewing and a lot of the staff and trustees/patrons are stepping down!!! Has anyone else heard anything similar?

I also was informed that the current CEO Johanna Hardy was previously employed at Gingerbread and the president was no other than the wonderful JK Rowling. I am surprised the alphabet crew havent made more of a fuss about that!!! 😮😮😮😮

I very much hope they are closed down.

The former head of Mermaids, Susie Green, was always saying that puberty blockers are a 'harmless pause button'.

But if you type 'Susie Green laughing' on YouTube you can see her admit in an interview that her son never went through puberty properly because she gave him blockers. His genitals literally never grew and that's why they had to remove part of his colon to create a 'neovagina'.

Of course a normal mother might be concerned that if one part of his body never formed properly, maybe other parts of his development were permanently stunted? But this didn't occur to her.

According to co-pilot in answer to if JKR has ever been president of Mermaids

Short answer: No. There is no evidence that J.K. Rowling has ever been president, patron, trustee, ambassador, or in any leadership role at the UK charity Mermaids. All available reporting shows the opposite: she has criticised Mermaids publicly and repeatedly.
What the evidence shows:

  • Rowling has never been associated with Mermaids in any official capacity.
  • She has instead publicly condemned the charity, especially after revelations about a trustee’s past involvement with a conference linked to paedophilia advocacy.
  • She has criticised celebrities (including Emma Watson) for supporting Mermaids.
Of course co-pilot could be wrong, but I can't be arsed to look further, I suspect you're just trying to shit stir.

The OP associated JKR with Gingerbread, not Mermaids, @TheywontletmehavethenameIwant.

ScrollingLeaves · Yesterday 16:33

Yes, it was One Parent Families, now Gingerbread.

And her husband was a raging homophobe who wouldn't have his son play with "girls" toys, so his wife colluded with him in turning their probably gay son, or maybe just camp little boy, into a "girl". The whole thing stank to high heaven.

Shedmistress · Yesterday 17:51

They took his toys away and he only said he was a girl to get his toys back.

heathspeedwell · Yesterday 17:58

Agreed. I suspect in a family of four boys a child who gets more attention from his mum and grandma for playing with girl's toys is going to make the most of that. Then he must have been confused when his homophobic dad came back from active service and got really angry.

It's so much easier for the parents to tell themselves that their child was 'born in the wrong body' than admit that they made mistakes. Although Susie did at least delete her Ted talk, so some part of her must be aware that the homophobia is blatantly obvious.

I checked and you are correct that JKR was the President of Gingerbread for the entire time that Joanna Hardy was there but I doubt she has gone to Mermaids as an undercover GC. I took one look at her photo and thought, "I bet she's got..." then on her Linkedin I found this entry,

Volunteering

Parent activist
All About Trans
Jul 2019 - Present · 7 yrs 1 mo
Civil Rights and Social Action
sharing lived experience as the parent of a trans young man

That’s incredibly sad.

DearestGentleReader90 · Yesterday 18:53

Yes, JKR was not president of Mermaids but Gingerbread where Jo Hardy worked before becoming CEO of Mermaids. Jo apparently has a trans son but still worked for an org that had a (rightfully) gender critical woman as president. Seems odd.....
They barely have any trustees left as loads of stepped down...I wonder why??? Rats jumping off a sinking ship?

Maybe they're horrifed that someone tainted by having been part of an organisation that also included Goody Rowling has been allowed in, and they're leaving in protest? Mostly I'm joking, but it wouldn't honestly surprise me.

DearestGentleReader90 · Yesterday 19:01

Hahaha I know you are joking but seriously...nothing would suprise me at that place!!

According to the Charity Commission's website Mermaids currently has 6 trustees.

Annoyingly the site doesn't list former trustees and the dates they served, unlike former officers listed by Companies House.

She blatantly never said that though.
I can't believe you copied and pasted AI slop based on an inability to read the opening post.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 21:12

Apologies for my previous post, I skip read, badly it seems, and thought it was another attempt ot smear JKR. Sorry. 😳

I am aware the Chair stood down last month and three others have gone within the last few weeks. Thats very rare unless something is afoot! 🤔
They are recruiting at the moment for new trustees so they must be short.

Looking on social media they are constantly closing their helpline due to staff shortages?

Fingers crossed the wheels are finally coming off. They have caused so much harm.

Igmum · Today 05:06

I’m trustee of a small charity (not Mermaids 😂) and we trustees are potentially responsible if things go belly up. I might be being overly optimistic here because in the past Mermaids revenue has been vast (including support from Starbucks) and prudent trustees will have tucked some of that in the sock drawer, but you never know.

There’s nothing in the news online. How did you become aware of the departures?

DearestGentleReader90 · Today 09:14

My daughter is unfortunately signed up to their volunteers newsletter so gets these updates. Luckily all the news of Trustees and staff leaving is making her question the stability of the charity 🤞
