Mixed sex toilets-is there an update on this since the SC ruling?

Am at a school transition day and wondering how they’ll explain 32 brand new mixed sec toilets. A lot of kids are going to b very unhappy when they realise this school operates one room with unisex somewhere, girls on one side and boys on the other. Sinks in the middle. Toilet attendant in situ.
Please could someone give me an update as I’ve not followed this for a while? Too busy eating Tunnocks 😃

Thank you. I’ll have a read after this torture session. It’s secondary school. DCs had completely separate toilets in primary, except for nursery and reception.

It's completely illegal - unless there are a suitable number of single sex toilets available as well. Children must not be compelled to undress or toilet alongside the opposite sex.
Well done for picking up on this and hopefully challenging them..

Ok. In short it’s not an unusual configuration in modern secondary schools, but one that’s caused lots of misuse (sex, drugs, self-harm, vandalism) and needs an attendant there. I expect the toilet cubicles are floor to ceiling in height which is not safe for children with medical issues or emergencies. These designs are more difficult to clean and ventilate effectively. It’s not fair on girls who need extra privacy around hand basins to wash out stains etc.
They don’t conform to Approved Document T (England) as cubicles should lead out on to a single sex accommodation which this arguably is not, but schools are exempt. They don’t, I believe, conform to the new separate sex ‘suite’ designs for 2026 from the Department for Education if you are in England. I haven’t seen the drawings for these ‘suites’ but details include:
5.1.24 Sanitary product dispensing machines
Extent: Minimum one machine per female toilet suite, or as specified in the Project Brief, for use from and including KS2 onwards (may be supplied by a service provider to School/College)
Location: In common areas used only by females, not in an individual cubicle/room and not visible from circulation areas

What does Toilet attendant in situ mean? I'm reading it as though there will be an adult supervisor at all times, but I could be wrong. And if that IS what it means, will they be male or female? At least one of the groups of pupils would not only have to share toilet facilities with pupils of the other sex but also with the presence of an adult of the opposite sex in the shared area too.
Does it mean something else?
