Yazidi woman Fawzia Amin Sido gives an account to the UN of her capture aged ten by Islamic State, abuse, sale to Hamas fighter in Gaza, and recent freedom.

Content warning, CSA, violence, abuse.

Brave woman. May she find peace and support.

It's so unfortunate. Reem Alsalem is excellent on women's sex based rights, but has a huge blind spot when it comes to the abuse of women by Palestinian men. She's previously written about forced marriage and rape of Yazidi women elsewhere, so it must be the fact that this happened in Gaza and the woman would still be there if the IDF hadn't rescued her that's the problem.

There are two different women being discussed. One Israeli woman, and this Yazidi woman. The former was addressing Alsalem directly at a UN meeting; this woman was at a different event.

Are some people really willing to turn a blind eye to the carpet bombing of women and children because the men in their country are so horrible?

Nothing in the Israeli strategy is geared towards making life better for victims of Hamas living in Gaza. In fact it is generally making things considerably worse.

No, some people are able to look at the terrible suffering of this woman and stay focused on that, while some other people are so obsessed with hating Israel they shoehorn it into virtually every thread about anything thats ever happened in the ME.

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

Who is 'turning a blind eye' to anything?

Why come onto this thread and insult the women who have so bravely shared their horrifying experiences just to try and make some political point?

'Nothing in the Israeli strategy is geared towards making life better for victims of Hamas living in Gaza'

How absolutely absurd to try and hold Israel responsible for the victims of Hamas.

There seem to be some people who only empathise with people in Gaza, and are incapable of empathising with anyone else.

They seem to think that's a virtue.....

It's very unedifying.

I’m not sure Israels job is to look out for Palestinian civilians. They should try to not actively harm them but Hamas are the elected representatives of Gaza and still enjoy significant support, they are the ones who should be looking out for civilians first and foremost. But then again they appear to be fine with sex slaves which should surprise precisely no-one.

The Yazidis have faced such awful things, I hope this young woman can rebuild her life, I’m just thankful she was rescued.
