Taken from a post by SEEN in Journalism. I used AI for an English translation as I don’t speak German so apologies if anything is incorrect.

Stadt Bern

29 June 2026 | Municipal Council, Directorates
Incident involving a police operation at Marzili Outdoor Pool
Yesterday, Sunday, an incident occurred in the women-only section called “Paradiesli” at the Marzili outdoor swimming pool involving a transgender woman. At the instruction of the pool management, the person was removed from the pool by the police. It was later determined that this decision was wrong. In the future, the Sports Office will communicate the access rules more clearly.
The “Paradiesli” is a voluntary clothing-optional (nudist) area for women, located in a physically separated section in the southeastern part of the Marzili outdoor pool. On Sunday evening, a woman was present in the Marzili who, due to certain physical characteristics, was not perceived as female by some other bathers. Several visitors to the “Paradiesli” felt disturbed by her presence. Other visitors expressed solidarity with the woman. As tensions at the site continued to rise, the facility management spoke with the woman and asked her to leave the “Paradiesli.”
After discussions involving the “taktvoll” security service’s presence and prevention team also failed to calm the situation, the pool management mistakenly decided to have the transgender woman removed by the police because they feared the situation would escalate. The tense and conflict-ridden atmosphere led to this incorrect assessment of the situation. The Directorate for Education, Social Affairs and Sport expressly regrets this decision and apologizes to the person concerned.
Access rules for the separate women’s area “Paradiesli”
All people who identify as women and live as women are permitted to enter the voluntary clothing-optional area “Paradiesli.” An internal guidance document, prepared jointly by the Sports Office and the Office for Gender Equality, assists staff in managing access to gender-segregated areas, including the “Paradiesli.” It states that, in difficult cases, the officially registered sex shown on an identity document is decisive. The person concerned met the access requirements.
Measures for future management of the “Paradiesli”
The City of Bern is firmly committed to fostering a supportive community that opposes discrimination and exclusion. It calls on all visitors to the swimming pool to treat one another with respect. The city will now hold discussions with both the people who reported the incident and those affected. In addition to the internal guidance document, a public guide will be created explaining access to the “Paradiesli,” both on-site and online. Over the coming days, staff at the Marzili outdoor pool will receive support from the “taktvoll” presence and prevention team and will receive more targeted training in handling gender-specific protected spaces, with particular attention to the concerns relating to the “Paradiesli.”

A man has been given an official public apology after being removed by police from a female-only nudist section of a public baths. He’s described here as ‘a woman whom other bathers did not perceive as female due to certain physical characteristics’....

I think this is great. This will make more people peak - not just the women in the pool, but also their partners and friends. I still have friends in some self-ID countries who tell me it won't affect them, there will be common sense decisions (even if in conflict with the law) and it is no real problem. Bring it on, is all I can say.

Quite.

Maybe people in Bern didn't know about self ID. Maybe they didn't know what it meant in real terms.

Well they know now.

LlynTegid · 30/06/2026 14:40

The mistake is not saying biological women to begin with. As self ID can apply to anyone.

Seethlaw · 30/06/2026 15:05

Makes you wonder how they would deal with a transman demanding to go to the men's area. What could possibly go wrong?

SirChenjins · 30/06/2026 15:42

From the Times - "All persons who identify and live as women have access,” the city said, adding that the trans woman met the criteria."

So the female bathing area is now mixed sex. FU women, says the man, I got what I wanted.

Treaclewell · 30/06/2026 20:03

My friend, male, said "What?" and then suggested a simple solution for everyone concerned, though painful for the hurty guy. Without the obviously not female bits, he wouldn't offend, would he?

A bloke with a chopped off penis is still a bloke.

ChaToilLeam · 30/06/2026 20:52

Ihr Schwanz, Leute! 🤦‍♀️

And now there is no female only area in this Lido. Hope it peaks the fuck out of everyone in Bern.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 30/06/2026 21:41

And so it goes on. Any space where women can enjoy a bit of male-free peace has to be colonised by male sex fetishists. They just can't bear women having something of our own.

MimiGC · 30/06/2026 21:44

Outrageous, infuriating and imbecilic. He should be told to F off in no uncertain terms.

Only people who believe that castrated men are the same as women would think so.

I hope this news gets traction and widely published.

This is a bonkers policy.

Shedmistress · 02/07/2026 08:21

It doesn't seem to be getting traction as the news seems to say 'Bern apologises' without mentioning they apologised to the bloke not the women.

turquoiseshell · 02/07/2026 10:04

There was a case in Switzerland in 2024. A girl spent a lot of time online over Covid and at 16 decided she wanted to transition. The school, hospital and authorities all ganged up against the parents, who refused to support transition. The girl was put in a children's home. The parents were being threatened with a criminal prosecution for refusing to hand over documentation relating to the girl (maybe passport and birth certificate?) to enable a legal transition to male. The parents went to court to stop the transition, but the case went against them. By then the girl was 17, which gave her the right to transition. They were considering going to the ECHR, but I don't know what then happened.

turquoiseshell · 02/07/2026 10:10

There have also been cases of men transitioning because they wanted to get out of military service, or to get a state pension earlier.

Of course. Women will be re educated to just accept men.

Just been reading aboit this on Swiss FB. Switzerland has self ID so the law is on the individual's side but the comments are pretty evenly divided.

With or without anaesthetic? He'd still offend, of course.

Is the penny finally dropping and people there are realising what self ID means in reality?

turquoiseshell · 05/07/2026 12:54

They're talking about it on Reddit Switzerland. The people on there appear to believe in biological sex, with men saying that it's a problem for women to sort out, as men aren't affected by it.

MagpiePi · 05/07/2026 12:58

The City of Bern is firmly committed to fostering a supportive community that opposes discrimination and exclusion.

The community is only ever supportive to entitled men and any women who don’t comply can just shut up or fuck off.

MarieDeGournay · 05/07/2026 13:14

A local take on it:
A skirmish at a Swiss swimming pool prompts debate on women’s versus trans rights - SWI swissinfo.ch

It's interesting that they are treating it as any ol' minority/majority group requiring their own spaces, rather than biological males of any group, and biological females of any group.
It suggests that women-only spaces are against the principles of social cohesion etc., and the thin end of a wedge that results in everybody demanding their own spaces.
The question that then arises is how much segregation both majorities and minorities are willing to accept to safeguard the needs of individual groups. This requires a practical, rather than an ideological, answer. The argument that a policy granting every group its own retreat acts as a dividing rather than a unifying force is not an insurmountable obstacle.

The last sentence is unclear - it seems to say that it should be possible to accommodate single sex spaces?

I only read the English translation, but now I've looked at the French version :
Car la micro-ségrégation redoutée par certaines voix critiques ne menace pas réellement.
it also seems to say that single sex spaces are not necessarily a bad thing.

Datun · 05/07/2026 13:41

I agree with everyone else who says this is just part of the peak journey. As more and more boundaries are violated people wake up.

It's still extraordinary to me how some people still don't understand that if you allow any man access to naked women and girls, guess what the fuck is going to happen??

Enter Mr Lido Man.

I wonder how long it will take to peak Switzerland.

TRAs never respond to the issue that if you allow "trans women" in then you allow all men in.

SinnerBoy · 05/07/2026 15:43

One of the visitors at the Marzili who complained about the trans woman later testified that she had experienced sexual violence in her life. For her, the sight of male genitalia is a trigger, and the “Paradiesli” serves as a sanctuary. She likely belongs to a minority in this regard.

Really? I bet that was written by a man. Signed:

A. Man.

I suppose the end of the article was better, I that it explained that most Swiss are in favour of actual women only spaces.

Surely this must have peaked more than the Alps?
