Ok, so I know the educated classes hate us and our Dear Leader, but she's really not doing herself any favours here...

May I present the Soft Southerner version?

Toasted oats/seeds in a granola-type-thing, creme fraiche, raspberries and a drizzle of honey.

Lush! You can tell its the English version though because of the straw hat.

Clotted cream would also be nice!

Ooh yes, but harder to pretend you're being healthy ...

the theory is that witches avoid anything that shows their reflection, and since a witch ball reflects everything in its surroundings, they will not voluntary enter a space guarded by one.

I know this thread has moved on but the above comment brings me a bit of peace. When the Witchfinder General starts his UK campaign I can honestly say I will not be denounced as a witch. Having an inner squirrel maybe, but not a witch. Phew!

To keep this thread on track my mother had several gooseberry bushes and it was her children's job to pick them every year. As the youngest, and only girl, it was my job from aged 4. I HATE GOOSEBERRY BUSHES!!

We can grow liquorice in England... that is something I want to try.

I have some out the front of my house. It's not doing terribly well in the heat.

On the witch ball thing, I think it's a similar principle to witch bottles although those work on the basis that the harm gets trapped in the bottle, caught up in the things in it. They're often put at the entrances to houses, or at least the entrance harm might use, hence their being stored under doors and up chimneys.
