Government mismanagement and aid cuts

This recent articles list some of the many other issues. One of which is the forced return of Afghans from Pakistan because of tensions there.

But the article does highlight how this impacts on women and children.

.
Another aspect which isn't talked about as much is that the harvesting and sale of poppies created a sizeable income for the country.

But the current regime has stopped the cultivation of poppies (which in terms of making opium less available is good) but has has a knock efffect.

I hadn't realised that was an old thread that had been revived (there have been quite a few started over the past couple of years)

Anyhow I saw this which is related, and maybe shows being part of th EU has some drawbacks.

Yes there are quite a few Afghanistan focused threads and there's been a few more since my earlier Directory list.

I think MN for other topics are trialling a grouping together of threads under a topic say with tags

sillyrubberduck · 25/06/2026 11:55

Horrific , I have no words !

Yeah, so? Why shouldn't there be an unlimited number? They're not all about the same thing.

Until there are better groupings for threads there will be multiple threads started, then dropping down the lists of most recent activities.

This way, by adding to an existing thread, it actually keeps your thread more in the headlines.

After all, iirc you posted this same story on the books topic area, so it's obvious you want to draw attention to what's going on

MsAmerica · 27/06/2026 00:34

There is no advantage to keeping a thread boosted to the top if people will just be annoyed by finding the content doesn't match the headline!

And I cross-post when I think something is applicable to more than one forum, which is not the same thing at all.
