Duke of Sussex & Others vs ANL: thread 4

bluegreygreen · 12/05/2026 17:19

This is the fourth thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) brought against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers Limited; ANL) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

The claimants are: Prince Harry (PH); Doreen Lawrence (DL); Liz Hurley (EH/LH); Elton John (EJ); David Furnish (DF); Simon Hughes (SH); Sadie Frost (SF).
They are represented by David Sherborne (DS).
The defendant (ANL) is represented by Anthony White (AMW).

The threads to date have been thorough discussions of the evidence (so far as we were able to obtain it), with posters giving links and explaining their views. We have mostly kept things civil by avoiding partisan discussions on specific Royal Family members, and trying not to be derailed from the topic of court proceedings.
The case has concluded and we are now awaiting the judgement from Judge Nicklin.

We have also included (when things slowed with the title case) other cases or discussions with a specific theme of free speech/press freedom, particularly when related to those with money or power preventing others from speaking.

One current ongoing case is that involving @GwendolineFairfax8 - some details towards the end of thread 3.
The case is in court this week and is likely to be reported on at the end of the week.

This is from the article
https://archive.is/wHsNV#selection-2851.0-2894.5

I can now reveal that, during the summer of 2025, a close adviser to Harry and Meghan had contacted me out of the blue and invited me to lunch at the Ivy restaurant in London.

As a result of information given to me at that lunch meeting, I placed a series of stories in The Mail on Sunday that portrayed the couple in a positive light. This included a front-page article, which ran in July, suggesting that Harry and Meghan were attempting to rebuild their relationship with King Charles. It revolved around the fact that Liam Maguire and Meredith Maines, Harry and Meghan’s US PR chiefs, were to hold clear-the-air talks with the monarch’s aide Tobyn Andreae in London.
^^
I was duly tipped off about the meeting, which was held at the Royal Over-Seas League near Clarence House. The attendees settled themselves on a balcony plainly visible from the public park below. The Mail on Sunday arranged for a photographer to capture the cosy but very embarrassing scene.

In a development which speaks volumes for their integrity, ‘sources close to the Sussexes’ then briefed the Daily Telegraph that they were ‘very frustrated’ that the pictures of the Royal Over-Seas League gathering had ended up in The Mail on Sunday – suggesting, quite falsely, that the Palace was responsible for a grotesque betrayal of trust.

Thank you

I was out of the loop for a few days, I had very little knowledge of the court case I'm still back on Is Harry still in the UK Where did he stay when Palace not available and are his family joining him. 🤦‍♀️a week is a long time in politics by the time I catch up on reading about case I'll have missed the next big thing.

Still in UK for "one year until Invictus" events

Nobody knows where he is staying - which proves it can be kept quiet - commentators have hinted at Soho House although there was a rumour of Nottingham cottage

Family? Nobody knows as HAM's PR have briefed 2 contradictory stories today

  1. That Meghan never intends to set foot in the UK ever again because of how she is treated by Charles
  2. That Meghan and Harry are "frantically" working with the palace to make a visit happen

If you want a good read - Charlotte Griffiths - the journalist maligned by Harry has written a long article in the DM

I genuinely worry for PH’s mental health. It’s really sad watching him implode, and I cannot be gleeful. He’s been so badly advised since leaving the protection of the RF. He’s under so much pressure, and yes it’s all self inflicted , but I still wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. The fact the MM didn’t even accompany him, knowing the judgement was due today. He’s so alone and I hope he has friends looking out for him.

I think he only takes the advice he wants to hear, I doubt he would allow anyone to be honest with him, his brother tried to slow down his relationship with MM but he took that to be a criticism of her. I don't think he would take advice from his father and a lot of his old friends have distanced themselves from him since his marriage, his York cousins aren't in the best place to advice him and Uncle Charles (Spencer) seems only to think of himself. Maybe if he spoke with his Aunts, Diana's sisters, to who he still seems close he could really talk things through, I'm sure they would say that his mother would never have wanted him to get so obsessive, she would have wanted him to enjoy his family and the new life he's chosen, rightly or wrongly,

I get the impression that Harry never wanted to do the hard work involved with real therapy and treatment. Instead he chose therapists that told him what he wanted to hear involving drugs (smoke weed/ use psychedelics like ayahuasca and psilocybin) - but these just seem to have increased his paranoia.

They are rumoured to have fallen out after they slagged him off while travelling on his private jet, not realising he has recording equipment on board 😱

Jesus Christ @noonames is there anyone or anything they can't or won't just be grateful for, imagine? & Harry getting the hump over The Mail serialising E.J's biography? As if it's any of his business.. they really are beyond the beyonds

So I really hope E.J. does NOT dip into his own pocket for Harry after that bullshit

I've just read an interview with DL's exh saying she had their son's body exhumed and moved without even telling Mr Lawrence. What an appalling the thing to do

It's actually even worse than that, @Janiie, because Doreen's on record as saying this is what all the family wanted, and now it seems it wasn't

I realise of course that she and Neville are divorced, but wouldn't have thought that disqualified him from being regarded as part of their late son's family

Also @Janiie & @GoldThumb

I never knew any of that, the poor man, that's absolutely shocking

I am not linked to the claimants but yes, its a member of my own family; it’s entirely my choice for my own reasons to not say and they are for good reasons. I have a right to be on this forum without being judged and all of you have been amazing. Im also a wife and a Mum who needs support regardless. Peace ✌️

I support both you and @GwendolineFairfax8! , however, it’s no good coming onto a thread and dropping hints but refusing to elaborate! , either keep it to yourself or give the information!
casual readers are not going to give you the benefit of the doubt!
in short…” shit or get off the pot!”

elessar · Yesterday 23:59

Wow that Charlotte Griffith article. The gloves are really off with the media now aren’t they?

we all knew, or strongly suspected a lot of this, but it’s quite different having it printed in black and white proof that H&M are not just leaking incessantly but then also lying and giving counter leaks to suggest BP are the ones responsible. No journalist should print anything from their camp without a heavy caveat.

GwendolineFairfax8 · Today 00:02

@jeffgoldblum ouch, that’s a bit harsh. Sometimes people leak things then regret it as it’s very outing. Mumsnet does not like requests for posts to be deleted.

AgileRobin said she might be able to update us at some point. I think I know anyway and can understand why she was looking for a bit of support and an opportunity to vent.

True ! But you didn’t do the dancing mamba! , I and others who follow this thread from the beginning may give grace , however lurkers and casual posters will not! , it is as , it is!!
if agilerobin needs support we are here but waving hints about are not needed.

Harry is very lucky that his court case fell in the same week as Farage vs Count Binface. Without that all the papers would be full of comment and analysis on the case, not just The Mail. As it is he was very much third on the news the day it happened and the week will end with the focus on Catherine at Wimbledon so I think he will be spared week long comment on every detail of his visit in the serious papers.

JSMill · Today 07:19

I read the article about Neville Lawrence as well. It’s very sad. It’s inexcusable to move someone’s body and not let his father know.

Charles Spencer also tried to talk H out of marrying Meghan .
If there is still contact with H and the Spencers I suspect it is out of love for Diana but at the end of the day , Spencers are loyal to the Crown.

Just my opinion but I think the DM will continue to drop exclusives for some time . Can’t remember who said it ( Paul Dacre?) but apparently they are sitting on lots of stuff that H and M would prefer never to see the light of day.
Sunday will be interesting as the Wales family ( probably including Louis this year) will be out in force at Wimbledon . How do H and M top that ?
Meanwhile …..any word on the Veterans ?

Wow, I remember the discussions here of the staged photo of the meeting, it’s great to read proof H&M ARE the ones purposely creating discord and leaking lies to cause the most trouble.

I do hope we read more of this, no wonder all their PR have quit and they are left with the most unprofessional quasi-PR person to ever be hired by a celeb.

I never knew Doreen Lawrence had her son exhumed, the poor dad to not even know where his son is buried, pretty despicable.

I agree that The Mail is going to be drip feeding stories for a while. They have probably been careful whilst the case was progressing but now the gloves are off. I do hope they think about which stories to print and stay away from anything too personal.

I know she is a grown woman who made a decision to take action but unfortunately this is going to be the kind of unsavoury stuff which is going to emerge . Harry has no qualms in using anyone to his ends and they will suffer in the blowout now as well.

Why. Harry wrote personal stories about the royal family. About time he gets a taste of his own medicine
