Hibernating? In summer?

This is pure pedantry, but I’m pretty sure all the people saying that they’re going to hibernate inside to escape the heat are estivating.

Thanks, I needed to say that somewhere and it’d be mean to do so elsewhere.

I appreciate the opportunity to learn that aestivating is the summer equivalent of hibernating, thank you!

And I appreciate learning the alternative (original) spelling!

I also appreciate you pointing this out, thank you. As soon as I read your title I realised that hibernation is of course only applicable in winter. And I’d forgotten about the alternative word for summer.

I'm just thinking Italian - inverno, estate.
