Spell Michael properly!

I'm so TIRED of seeing Michael Jackson written as Micheal. "Heal' is pronounced 'heel', so obviously it's wrong. If you're unsure, just look it up FFS. (Can't hold it in any more. I've come on here for a therapeutic moan!)

This is the Irish spelling - pronounced Mee-hall

The Irish spelling has a fada though.

Really? I know one and that’s how he says it.
He is from Limerick if that makes a difference.

Edited

It doesn’t have anything to do with being from Limerick.
It’s just that nearly all Irish accents pronounce the letter r at all positions in a word. This means your phonetic transcription of the name doesn’t actually sound like the name when read in an Irish accent (though I’m sure it does in your accent).

Just to clarify it is not the Irish spelling of Michael - it’s a totally different Irish name that is pronounced differently. It’s like saying Seamus is the Irish for James. A bit different as they obviously have the same biblical origin but a Mícheal would not answer to the pronunciation of Michael.

It’s not a totally different name though?
Michael and Micheál have the same root.

It’s less obvious from the spelling but so do Séamus and James.
I know a few men who use Séamus day to day, but who are James on their birth certs.

Cool thank you, I’ll tell him

The irony was that the person who kept spelling it as Micheal on the thread about the abuse was a big fan who was passionately defending him. I did think, at least spell his bloody name right if you love him so much.

I've seen too many Pheobes over the years.

There is a Pheonix in DS’s class. Very sweet kid actually.

Phoebe I have to think about. Michael and Rachael absolutely not, no one should be getting that wrong.

Yes Micheal for Michael annoys me too. Yes I do know it's the Irish spelling but the Michaels I know or knew who have had it spelled Micheal are not Irish and that is not how they spell it.

A family member called Michael had it spelled wrong in his school report by his class teacher.

It's not as if it's a very unusual name. There's George Michael, Michael Caine and various other actors.

I am a Rachael, i never struggled with which way round the A and E went, neither did my parents even my severely dyslexic brother got that hang of it but to schools, workplaces and everyone else it appears to be the hardest thing in the world and being spelled Racheal drives me mad.

I don’t ‘get’ that spelling, it makes no sense to me. Where does the second ‘a’ come from? I didn’t even know how to pronounce it until I met a woman who spells her name that way.

In the Bible Rachel is a two-syllable name pronounced Rah-chel (guttural ch), whereas Raphael is a three-syllable name pronounced Ra-pha-el. So when I see ‘Rachael’ I instinctively want to say Ra-cha-el or to anglicise it to Ray-chay-el, which doesn’t work.

Obviously, it’s your name and I will spell it and pronounce it the way you want when in reference to you.

I once knew two Maries. One pronounced her name M’rye, so we all called her M’rye and the other M’ree.
