Hi everyone. I'm looking for some urgent perspective. I’m 40 (will be 41 in September) and we are actively trying to conceive. I will be ovulating this week, but I found a tick attached to me this morning. It was tiny, but it was completely engorged, meaning it has likely been feeding on me for at least 24–48 hours. I don't know exactly how long it was there. At my age, I feel an immense amount of pressure not to waste a single precious cycle. However, knowing an engorged tick carries a higher risk of Lyme disease transmission, I am concerned about what could happen if I manage to catch this week and then get sick.
I think I could take amoxicillin if I did get Lyme, but I'm worried that Lyme symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms could be hard to tell apart, and worried about the effects on a baby.
We are in a high risk area near Exmoor and my partner was recently treated for Lyme.
The nurse at my GP surgery said to skip this cycle to be safe but it feels so hard to do that when it could be totally fine and I'm getting older every month!
Would you skip this cycle to see if symptoms develop, or would you press ahead anyway given the age factor? Has anyone navigated a high-risk tick bite while trying to conceive? Thanks so much.
