I wanted to create a support thread for anyone 40+ who may need it . Hopefully we can get a thread going. Please feel welcome to join me to talk, rant or whatever you want to discuss to make this journey a little emotionally easier.

Im 40 and while I feel extremely blessed to have 1 child , I would very much love another. I've been pregnant 4 times between 37 and 40. 2 chemicals, 1 MMC and one birth.
We tried for about 18 years to get pregnant and nothing .
We then fell pregnant naturally but it ended in a very early loss.
After that we persued ivf a year later and fortunately it gave me my beautiful son.
We tried pretty much straight away for another but didnt have any luck. We then did another round of ivf shortly after my sons 1st birthday. We got 2 embryos and froze them as we were advised not to proceed with a fresh due to conditions not being desirable . You can imagine the shock when I found out we had unexpectedly conceived naturally during our ivf cycle. This sadly ended in a MMC .Baby had passed around the 6-7 weeks mark.
2 months later I found out it was pregnant again on NYE. Sadly that ended in another early pregnancy loss a few days later.

I'd love to hear your stories and im hoping that despite being over 40 , that our bodies are capable of creating and carrying a healthy child

Hi guys, just an update to say I got my first BFP this morning. Trying to keep emotions in check but delighted. I just wanted to share because other people's stories have really kept me going. We're trying 18 months, I'm 41 with everything except age looking OK, but no luck to date. Thanks for the positive support over the months. Fingers crossed

Pinkponyclub26 · 12/06/2026 22:41

I finally met ds' dad when I was 42. We weren't trying for a baby, I'd lost 1.5 ovaries and a tube during earlier gynae issues, so had long given up. The surgeon thought he'd left just enough ovary to keep me out of the menopause for a few more years.
Then started feeling very tired at 44y4m, went to the gp thinking my thyroid was playing up, and ds popped up on the ultrasound. A bit of a shock.
Ds arrived full-term when I was 45y2m. He was 8lb, all good, and is just finishing his a'levels this year. 😊
Eat healthily, stay away from alcohol, take your folic acid and have lots of fun. Good luck OP.

Hello! Just to add here that I got pregnant through ivf - I have a female partner - at 43. Our DD is now 2.5 years and I’m 46. We have 7 frozen embryos stored and have been going backwards and forwards on whether to try again. I’d try again in a flash if we were younger. and I THINK we will, but I do have anxieties about my age - not so much now, I generally feel fine and our sleep has pretty much returned to normal, but more so (if if were to work) that the child would be a young teenager in our early 60s. So tough! Good luck to everyone! X

I am having such a weird cycle just now
i keep testing and negative.

period started on time and temp was down about 4 days prior (which was unusual for me as it usually drops on day 1)

period was fairly light and stopped by day 4.
day 6 and it came back for 1 day
day 8 my temps rise right above cover line and are up day 9 and 10
day 9 and 10 and period came back with cramps and brown blood (proper blood not discharge) I had this exact blood and cramps when pregnant with my son so I tested again and negative.

so I’m day 10 today and light brown blood

so it’s a weird cycle and I really hope this isn’t the start of peri 😖😖

I have been text book predictable with my cycles for past 3 years so this is so strange

VioIetMoon · 24/06/2026 21:20

@Littlebuzz aw im so sorry ❤️

@Pinkponyclub26 Erratic cycles are so fustrating. My cycles were like that for a few years, starting then stopping then starting again . My bleeds varied from light to just spotting . I never knew what was the end and what was the start of my period.I ended up always have to carry a tampon with me during the month as id go from long cycles to extremely short cycles and never knew when to expect a bleed

Pinkponyclub26 · 25/06/2026 00:40

@VioIetMoon did you end up conceiving with ivf?
I feel exactly the same I don’t know whether to count this as one period or what!
im still spotting pink/brown discharge and im cd15 now. Dont know if I’ve ovulated or not as temp been up since day 8 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sonic85 · 01/07/2026 07:19

Hello everyone! I recognise some names from previous threads. Thought I’d hop on this one :)
Congratulations @wholeeverything ! Really happy to hear about your pregnancy
I’m 41 and we’ve been trying for number 2 for just over a year. We are planning to try IVF but things are moving quite slowly. My AMH isn’t great, even for my age (4) but I had a scan yesterday and everything looked OK
Hope everyone is doing well :)

VioIetMoon · 06/07/2026 17:45

@Pinkponyclub26 No this pregnancy was natural, surprisingly. I had 4 natural pregnancies ( 3 loses) within a 6 month period before this pregnancy stuck.
My first child was ivf tho.
Im still not sure how i suddenly went from being infertile to having the ability to achieve a pregnancy so easily
