Experiences of slower healing after a child’s circumcision for medical reasons

hi, is anyone willing to share their experiences of circumcision healing with me please? My son has just turned 10. He has a circumcision (for medical reasons) 31 days ago and healing is not complete yet and he still has a large scab on the top. In fact it feels like it’s plateaued. We saw a urologist on Thursday as I was concerned. She wasn’t worried. She gave me antibiotic cream to apply around the stitch line. I have also sent photos to the consultant who is overlooking my son’s care, and he wasn’t concerned either. He said that things are obviously just taking a little bit longer with my son. Can anyone offer some positive stories similar to mine? Just feels like this is dragging on and on and it’s so stressful.

Hi OP, my son is 11 and had a similar story as he had a circumcision 5 months ago that took a long time to fully heal

Hello. Thank you for replying. I thought I was doing something wrong as I heard 2/3 weeks and all will be good! We are week 4 and not here yet! It’s such a worry having not been through it before.

It was stressful for us too so I can empathise with you. Is your son worried? Does he have any disability that delays healing? There was some things but I would rather not say on a public forum

He’s not worried at all. He has autism and is a little oblivious to it all, which is a good thing really. It’s just me! Plus we are supposed to be going on holiday in 2.5 weeks so that’s another worry. I thought this would all be done and dusted by then. He can’t go in a pool like this (and he has been so looking forward to it for over a year). We did see a urologist on Thursday who looked over everything. She said things look okay. Just taking longer than usual. I’m glad all good with your ds now though. How long did the overall healing process take for him?

Hi op, my son had a specialized circumcision as he was born with glandular hypospadias.
i found he took longer to heal where the end stitch was and he also got anti biotic cream due to a infection there. I did put a tiny amount of salt in his bath water, pat it dry very gently and tried to keep it as dry as possible

Thank you. DS hasn’t had a bath since the surgery. Only showers! I thought a bath may hinder things.
