7.5months. Started weaning. He accepts porridge with milk but hates mashed up broccoli or broccoli with potatoe or mashed up carrot. Any advice on what to offer? He doesn’t seem to like the taste or texture.

I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old and I’ve never really done puree’s/mashing food, I just give him whatever we’re having but obviously prepared in an age appropriate way- sometimes he eats every last bit and then has more, sometimes he has a little bit, fiddles with it and then throws the rest at the dog, it’s all part of the process!

My youngest was the exact same. He just wouldn’t take mashed food. I even took him to the GP, who said that since he was used to the sweetness of breast milk, I should try sugar on it all 😱 Then one night I had a friend over and had pizza, chicken wings, garlic bread etc and he was on my knee trying to grab the food. So I gave him a bit of pizza.

He ate it all and wanted more.

Turned out he just hated mashed up food.

I found weaning stressful as it feels like everyone has an opinion on what you should be doing and baby led weaning is the big thing now. But you know your baby best, if purées are easier for both of you then do that!

I started with 1 meal early evening. Started with purées, Greek yogurt with a bit of fruit mashed in, omelet or toast pieces. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Annabel Karmel is good for purées where you can sneak veg in a fruit purée.
as time goes on just blend up other food like a stew so baby can try meat flavours.
i then introduced breakfast. Ready brek, weetabix or yogurt are easy options.

when they are under 1 they may eat a little, they may eat a lot. As long as they are growing and healthy don’t worry too much. It is very hard not to compare though. My baby only got better with lumps and texture when he got molars.

There's a lot of stress around baby weaning but honestly, I just gave my two what we had for the most part minus the salt (unless it was spicy or w/e), just make sure it's in baby safe forms such as soft enough / batons etc.

My eldest is a great eater and always has been (11), youngest is going the same way (15m).

Don't stress, don't watch social media baby weaning and don't follow all the advice to the letter, if baby doesn't like something it really doesn't matter.
