Any advice on ending extended breastfeeding for a 3 year old.

I really want to stop breastfeeding now as I’m just done with it! My DS has just turned 3.

I dropped all feeds except for before nap/bed a few months ago which has been ok. His main feed used to be morning and he has eventually adjusted although has started sticking his hand down my top instead which I’m really struggling with. I think logically it might be a nice form of alternative comfort for him but I have a really negative physical reaction to it.

Anyway I mostly posted here for advice on dropping the final feed. I delayed doing this while we did potty training but I’m keen to stop now in the next few weeks.

Does anyone have any tips?

Update in case of interest! Decided to prepare DS by saying the milk would run out soon and then he came down the next morning and announced he didn’t have milk any more because he is a big boy. Not had it or asked for the past 2 days since then. Early days but I am amazed and pleased but also very slightly sad that I didn’t get to have those last few feeds! But mostly really relieved that he’s not upset!

That’s a great update. Just to say, you’re amazing to give your DS such a great start in life.

That's really good! Glad he was understanding, another perk of feeding him for so long along with the obvious other benefits!

My son is almost 4 and this morning announced 'I used to drink your boobs when I was 2, in the morning and at night' 😂 Only downside of feeding for a long time is they remember haha.
