Baby girls name: Kara or Evelyn

Hi! I'm due to have a baby girl in 7 weeks and we are undecided on a name still! Her middle name will be Faith and the names we are both deciding between are:

Kara Faith
Evelyn Faith

I also like Melody as music has a strong presence in our family but my husband isn't as keen on this name. I could work on him though!

Just wondering what others think 🤔

How would pronounce Evelyn? I had an aunt by that name and it is pronounced Ev-lynn. However many seem to pronounce it Eve-Lyn nowadays which was the male pronunciation, and it shortened to Evie.

in Corrie Tyrone’s grandmother started off as Ev-lynn then somehow became Eve-Lyn. Always annoys me! (Yes I’m sad)

I agree - Cara spelt with a C is lovely. Kara doesn’t quite do it for me in the same way.

Evelyn is fine - but will blend in with lots of Evie, Eva, Ava’s.

I don't like Melody.

I am biased because Kara is my DD’s name and I love it. Much prefer it with a K.

At one point a third of the girls in DDs class were named a variant of the name Eve. Mental. Definitely avoid!

Another vote for Kara here. I dont mind it with the K spelling.

Please not Evelyn. The world does not need yet more Evelyns or Evie’s. Every other girl is an Evie. It’s so boring!

Kara is nice, I love Melody.

Evelyn (either pronunciation) is my fave. But I think the overall popularity of E names would put me off it sadly. I was one of 6 or 7 of my name in school, a trend which has continued throughout my life, so personally try to avoid that for the next gen.

I like Kara best.

Evelyn was on our very short final list and in the end I vetoed it because of pronunciation issues. I have an usual first name that has been mispronounced and misspelt my whole life, then I married someone with a similarly difficult surname so wanted DD's first name to be straightforward.

Like PP I prefer Cara, but with the C spelling. Not a fan of Evelyn.

Thank you so much everyone! I think we will probably go with Kara. The reason why we are thinking of the K spelling is that we live in N.Ireland and the C spelling is quite popular over here as a name and would like something a little different, but perhaps the C would be a better choice.
