Is Beinash still usable?

Is Beinash (any spelling) still ok to use after the Sara Sharif/Beinash Batool tragedy? I’m wondering how many people would be aware of that. Our second choice would be Zainab.

OP posts:

CalmWriter · Yesterday 08:56

No to both.

MidnightPatrol · Yesterday 08:57

I wouldn’t associate it with that incident no.

HugoThatway · Yesterday 08:57

I'd pick Zainab.

ThejoyofNC · Yesterday 09:00

Nobody remembers that awful woman's name. They just remember poor little Sara. But you've clearly associated it with her in your mind and I know I couldn't name my child something with that type connection.

oviraptor21 · Yesterday 09:00

I wouldn't associate it no and did read a lot of the media around it at the time. Unfortunately there are just so many tragedies of this type that unless the perpetrator gains infamy in some way the names around then don't gain bad associations.

greglet · Yesterday 09:01

I think Zainab is a nicer name anyway, tbh

Noideawhatiam · Yesterday 09:02

I think it might depend on the community you live in. I know very few Muslim families and they all seem to have boys, so would definitely associate it with the Sara Sharif murder, but of you live somewhere where Beinash is more commonly used it might be fine.

rememberingthem · Yesterday 09:12

I immediately associated it with that vile woman, i would use zainab.

Purplecatshopaholic · Yesterday 09:17

I think Zainab is lovely, I’d go with that.

viques · Yesterday 09:18

Even if people didn’t immediately associate the name with that evil witch , the story of little Sarah is very likely to be retold for many years to come so the name will resurface regularly.

There are so many beautiful Muslim names, why choose one that has been tainted?

EverMissWicklowSometimes · Yesterday 09:23

I wouldn't make the association so I think you could use it.

RoseField1 · Yesterday 09:25

I just wouldn't use it, the crime was so recent. There are many other names to choose. Zainab is nice.

WinterAconite · Yesterday 09:30

I would associate it with the murder and I prefer Zainab anyway

NeedToKnow101 · Yesterday 09:32

Zainab is a lovely name. I’m always a bit jealous of people with Z names.

BufferState · Yesterday 09:34

It’s not an association I would make, but Zainab is nicer anyway.

takeabreack · Yesterday 09:40

I didn't remember that that was her name, but I much prefer Zainab.

I Googled Beinash and everything that came up was about Sara's death, so I think that in itself is too strong an association.

user293948849167 · Yesterday 09:54

I wouldn’t associate with Sara Sharif
Prefer Zainab though

Favouritefruits · Yesterday 09:58

It’s such a pretty name and I don’t associate it with anything awful! In five years time sadly nobody will remember that incident so I’d use it if you love it!

Lindy2 · Yesterday 10:02

Yes I immediately associate it with her but I am in the local area to where it happened. No one here will forget.

Juryduty · Yesterday 11:10

Probably depends on your community and where you live. If it's a commonly used name in your community then it's probably fine. But if you live in the area where Sara grew up then I would avoid it.

You could also consider a different spelling - Beenash seems to be variant spelling of the same name that is used in the Pakistani community and when you Google it there is nothing about Beinash Batool.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · Yesterday 11:11

I didn’t even know what this was about until I clicked on it so no. I prefer Zainab though

This

Darragon · Yesterday 11:13

I knew why you were asking from the thread title. I wouldn’t use it now. It’s like you wouldn’t use Myra (Myra Hindley) even all these years later. Lots of people have forgotten but enough people know. Zainab is a great name though!

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · Yesterday 11:14

I would go for Zainab.

Scaryspicer · Yesterday 11:18

I’d go for zainab. It’s lovely!
