Enko · 06/07/2026 20:36

Fantastic. Really love it. Strong solid name IMO

DeeNiall · 06/07/2026 20:42

It's all right. Don't love it but it's distinctive.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 06/07/2026 20:44

It reminds me of chocolate too.

Piapea · 06/07/2026 20:49

I love this name, and as far as Irish ones go, it's pronounced as it's written!

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/07/2026 20:53

Love it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/07/2026 20:54

It reminds me of the Calmac ferries.

SomersetBrie · 06/07/2026 20:55

Irish name. But nice and easy to say.
I don't know any baby Cormacs, they are all in their 50s and 60s.

Yes me too. Or somehow like a concrete brand.

HollyGolightly4 · 06/07/2026 20:58

Love it, gorgeous name

LibraryLady26 · 06/07/2026 21:02

My son's name! He's 17. We knew a few other little Cormacs around the time of his birth but he has never had another one in his class. People comment on it positively all the time. I love how it's unique, reflects our heritage, and is easy to spell and pronounce.

All Irish names are pronounced as they are written; it’s a different language.

Itsnowisntit · 06/07/2026 21:12

like the name and popular in Scotland. My son had a couple in his school year.

😁 I used to love Caramac! Do they still make it?
Really like the name Cormac - ds (now 22) was friends with a Cormac in primary school.

AncientBallerina · 06/07/2026 21:18

It’s lovely in Ireland anyway- I’m not sure how it would go down in the Uk. You don’t want too much emphasis on the mac. In England they tend to say Corr MACK whereas in Ireland it’s Cor-mac or Curr-mac.

NeartoNewquay · 06/07/2026 21:22

Might not work in Cornwall - Cormac are the council company who mend the roads 😄. They get regular emails from us about potholes and are often referred to in these parts as "bleddy Cormac"!

17caterpillars1mouse · 06/07/2026 21:24

Love it, its the right balance of known but unusual. Looks nice, nice sound. I can never understand why it isnt more popular. I also love Conrad which i think is similar, though probably more well known and used

FrenchBunionSoup · 06/07/2026 21:25

Underrated

My mind immediately goes to Cormac McCarthy, but I don't think that's a bad thing as he was a brilliant author

Mullersfruitcorner · 06/07/2026 21:28

Cormac isn’t really pronounced how it is spelt which you only notice when it is pronounced by English accents.

In Ireland it is often a bit more Cor muk or a very short mac than how you would say Mack.

there was another thread recently asking for opinions on Cormac. And the association with the highways company was brought up
a few times

Yes. It’s Cawr-muk where I am in Ireland, though my friends who speak Irish as their first language say Curr-muk.

It sounds odd to me said in an English accent as the r isn’t really pronounced properly. It’s said more like Caw-mack which sounds wrong to me.

I’d echo pp though in saying Irish names are pronounced as they’re spelt…in Irish.
That they’re confusing to people who don’t speak the language isn’t really surprising, but in fact Irish is much more a phonetic language than English is.

Yes, the second syllable is a schwa. I quite like it. Safe classic.

Yes, you’re right. Caw-mac in a non-rhotic accent is awful, like Orla pronounced ‘AW-la.

DeeNiall · 07/07/2026 00:27

It will be Caugh-mac in England.
