Max or Henry?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SJM1988 · 02/07/2026 18:24

I have a henry ( harry for short) so prefer henry.
We know a Max whose full name is Maximillan. I love that too.

Armorlux · 02/07/2026 18:25

Henry
You can't go wrong with timeless classics.

Max is OK but always makes me think maximum.

hitothetree · 02/07/2026 18:27

Max.

Henry is so boring 🥱

midlifeattheoasis · 02/07/2026 20:51

Henry

lindalidl · 02/07/2026 21:10

100% Max

Preppyprepper · 02/07/2026 21:14

Henry x 100.

Max is also nice, but Henry is lovely, classic and timeless.

Suspect the people who don't like it on here have a Logan, Laddi-Boi or Balonz 😂

Didimum · 02/07/2026 21:14

Max. Henry is so overused now, I know a gazillion of them. Feels like at the moment it’s surpassed ‘classic’ and gone into the ‘too trendy’ realm.

hyggetyggedotorg · 02/07/2026 21:14

I prefer Max.

Will he be your first baby? Or is there a sibling name for it to go with?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/07/2026 21:16

Max. Where the wild things are is a great book!

user293948849167 · 02/07/2026 21:20

Ooh I like both, difficult to choose. Probably Henry because it could be shortened to Harry or Hal if he wanted when older, not much nickname potential for Max

Aiming4Optimistic · 02/07/2026 21:54

How about Macsen?

I love Max

@Newname26 , what a strange comment. It's very popular. Baby name explorer - Henry, Baby name explorer - Harry

@Namesnamesnames13 , I like both but they're quite different.
How does each sound with the surname?

Henry as in the wee red hoover with a smilie face.

Really would you want to share your name with a hoover ? I think thats opening kids up to teasing. Henry's have been about for decades they aren't going to disappear anytime soon.

StupidDeaths · 03/07/2026 09:31

But there are so many Henry’s around now, most kids have heard of a kid called Henry before they are aware of the Hoover link! And nothing really inherently funny or awful about the hoover anyway. It seems to me to be a bit like laughing at someone called Mark because of the Marks and Spencer link!

yes I do have a Henry… I agree it is popular (very where we are) and boring maybe but I still love it. I have 3 kids and it is “Henry!!” which I have to shout the most. And i often hear it shouted exasperatedly by parents in parks … shops… bowling alleys. We have adapted the saying about men to “not all Henrys, but it’s always a Henry” when we hear yet another Henry doing something he shouldnt!

Bellybellas · 05/07/2026 06:47

Horrid Henry, Hooray Henry, Hoover Henry

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 05/07/2026 06:47

Henry

wizzler · 05/07/2026 07:29

Max

bugalugs45 · 05/07/2026 07:34

I prefer Henry , but tbh they’re both very popular dogs names around here so that would put me off

Calliopespa · 05/07/2026 12:20

lindalidl · 02/07/2026 21:10

100% Max

That sounds like a huge meal deal from McDonalds: "I'll have the 100% percent Max."

Max isn't awful but too much "muchness" in the associations. What if he is physically teeny? What, come to that if he is huge? And perhaps someone very ordinary, in the middle of everything, and size-wise very average wears it worst of all.

fluffydoglove · 05/07/2026 12:21

Max ..Henry just reminds me of horrid Henry too many years reading those books to my kids!
Max was on my list but dh didn’t like it I love it

GloriousGoosebumps · 05/07/2026 18:14

I like them both so that’s not much use to you! But If you decide on Max then actually put Maximilian on the birth certificate. It’s also a lovely name and gives your son options. Previous posters have said these names are considered old fashioned today, I’d say they’re timeless rather than old fashioned and I’d like to know what names are considered more modern.

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2026 18:16

Henry for me.

Firebird83 · 05/07/2026 19:12

Henry, but both are nice. I wouldn’t say they were dated to the 2010s!

Bluehels · 05/07/2026 19:13

max

Bellybellas · 05/07/2026 19:13

lindalidl · 02/07/2026 21:10

100% Max

That looks like an ad!

I don’t like it as a name

mrssnow7 · 05/07/2026 19:16

Love both! Couldn’t have Max as one of my best friends boys is Max and we went for Thomas over Henry (which was DH’s favourite) because he is our last baby and Thomas is a family name.
