Thoughts on Gabrielle? Gabby is a bit of a disappointment, as it ruins an otherwise lovely name.

I think it's a very lovely name but I prefer Gabriella. I know a Gabriella, she's a young teenager, and she never gets called Gaby

I know a woman with this name who is constantly called Gabriel (as in the masculine form of the name) and assumed to be a man before people meet her. I think it would be a problem for anyone with this name because so many people lack basic literacy skills.

Gabby can be avoided. Most people aren't impolite enough to call someone Gabby if they don't want to be called that.

Gabrielle or Gabriella are both lovely names

I like Gabriella, but not Gabrielle.

In an aside: in Germany in the 1960s and 70s, every other girl was called Gabriella. I lived there for six months and once counted up that I had met 14 of them.

It's a beautiful name and could potentially be shortened to Elle to avoid Gabby.

Not fussed on Gabrielle. However, an old school friends sister was Gabriella and was shorted to Ella. Not logical but I think this name is beautiful.

I came to say the same. I know a Gabriella who was Ella for short.

I also think the a somehow turns it into a much prettier name, though I don't mind just Gabrielle.

Funny isn't it because I think the a ending makes it frillier and much prefer Gabrielle. I like the Gabby shortening as well.
