Do you like Lettice (leh-teese)? DH has raised the concern that people may try to pronounce it like lettuce (which honestly doesn’t bother me much because people mispronounce a lot of simple names). Letitia and Leticia are also options for that reason.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
StabiaGirl · 08/06/2026 13:47

Boris says yes.

lavenderscenteddrawerliners · 08/06/2026 13:48

Even if you aren't bothered I think your child might be bothered by being called Lettuce. I've never heard of Lettice, nevermind it being pronounced Lehteece.

TheGriffle · 08/06/2026 13:49

Your child would forever be called Lettuce. Would you like to be named Lettuce yourself as I know I wouldn’t.

user293948849167 · 08/06/2026 13:51

Lettice will be pronounced Lettuce quite often I think, and she will probably be called Lettuce in school!
Letitia is nicer

Hinthebuild · 08/06/2026 13:52

Love it! As you said, people can be quite thick. If you worry about how a name could be mispronounced, you’d have to stick to only the most basic of names.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 08/06/2026 13:53

Not sure why would call your child lettuce, knowing they’d be called that. How is Letitia pronounced? I presume le-tit-ia? If so, that’s worse. I don’t like leticia but it’s the best of the 3

UnimatrixZeroOne · 08/06/2026 13:53

Lettice is just silliness!
The other 2 are simply horrible.

Pronounced correctly, yes, but I feel lettuce is marginally better than leTITia -l

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 08/06/2026 13:56

Of course she will be called lettuce!

Lettice ˈletɪs
let·tuceˈlɛtɪs

Lettuce? This is ridiculous.

CoverLikelyZebra · 08/06/2026 13:58

I cannot think of any vegetable that it would be OK to use as a baby name. Lettuce is no exception. Lettice is simply too close to Lettuce and would be cruel to use.

Latifa is a nice name of arabic origin which is close in pronounciation to Lettice without being likely to be mixed up with Lettuce, and you can still use Letty as a nickname if that's what you'd like.

tartyflette · 08/06/2026 13:58

She will inevitably be called Letty, I should think.
It’s a nice nickname as long as she is happy with it
(and I though Lettuce was generally pronounced Lett-is or Lett-us and certainly not Lett-ice (long i as in ice-cube ) or Lett-uce or Lett-use.

lavenderscenteddrawerliners · 08/06/2026 13:59

Letitia and Leticia are both pronounced Letisha.

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/06/2026 13:59

I love it but you will get lettuce. It's even been pronounced that was in older books when they've been adapted for TV/radio/audible.

It's not lettuce. It's Lettice. An old name. Used in The Chronicles of Narnia for a start.

FoxHedgehogBadger · 08/06/2026 14:03

I actually love the name Lettice, it’s a good classic historical name with a beautiful meaning. But inevitably, she will get mistaken for a leafy lettuce.
I would go for your other options, both Letitia and Leticia are equally lovely choices.

Sounds the same when said out loud though. And let’s not pretend it doesn’t

MyKindHiker · 08/06/2026 14:06

I love unusual names but yes, she will a million percent be called lettuce by everyone and probably change her name when she's older. Save her the bother and change the spelling to one of the others you suggested.

LlynTegid · 08/06/2026 14:06

StabiaGirl · 08/06/2026 13:47

Boris says yes.

Enough reason to say no.

Letitia would be my choice of the three.

FET2026 · 08/06/2026 15:09

There are literally millions of names. Sluggice reminds me of slugs. Lettice reminds me of lettuces.

It's pronounce the same as Lettuce, LET-iss.

I was saying letitita is nice if pronounced correctly, but indicating at school the fact the name contains the word TIT will not be missed.

StolenTeapots · 08/06/2026 15:28

Please don't call your child lettuce

I'm not saying it doesn't. But the post I was responding to was implying someone actually wanted to name their child after a random vegetable and that that was the latest ridiculous name fad.
