Thoughts on Skylar for a girl? I find it pretty but cannot picture it on a woman who is 30+. I'm thinking it might be one of those names that doesn't age well because of the youthful quality it has.

Another poster here who prefers Skye.

Skylar makes me think of Skyscraper. Imagine if she is really tall.🏢

Dreadful . Skylar in Breaking Bad was the epitome of a pain in the arse .

MyDuvetDay · 16/06/2026 22:48

Skylar for me falls into the same bucket as Madison, Harper, Taylor, Dakota… very American and very 00s

timoteigirl · 17/06/2026 19:51

Comes from the Dutch word meaning scholar. I prefer Skyler to Skylar

PolkaDotPorridge · 17/06/2026 20:06

Dreadful cheap sounding name.

GladHazelPoster · 17/06/2026 20:27

Why not Sorcha?

I think of Breaking Bad and American names. If you are from the UK, where I am, I think Skye is more pleasant and reminds me of the beautiful island.

Love it! If MN hate it and call it trashy I’d take that as a compliment 😂
