Christine or Christina?

I know they’re almost the same name, but do you prefer Christine or Christina? I know a really horrid woman called Tina, and I dread to think of my DD wanting to be called that someday (no offence to the other Tinas out there). It’s enough to make me go off the name Christina completely. I’m wondering if it would be less likely with Christine.

Has anyone suggested NN Christa?

Greenknightsuccess · 29/05/2026 18:56

Christina is prettier.

Christine the Strawberry Girl
Christina is prettier

Christy?

Half the girls in my year in school in the 70s and early 80s were called Christine. The rest were Suzanne.

I prefer Christina, and love Christiana, if you're looking for alternatives that could avoid the NN Tina.

These days the names ending in -a will generally be more popular than the -e names. That's just the current fashion.

Julie v Julia
Anne v Anna
Marie v Maria

At the moment names ending in an -e are seen as quite dated. I personally think Christine is quite pretty though.

I’m a Christina. I’ve never met another one, but plenty of Christines.

Im called Chris by most.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 05/06/2026 09:53

I like both but I think Christina might be slightly more timeless, whereas most Christines now are over 50, if that would be an issue for you.

caringcarer · 05/06/2026 11:06

Christina is somehow more feminine.

bellventrico · 05/06/2026 11:18

Agree Christina is lovely ( makes me think of Flambards too for the oldies amongst us). Christine ufc's bit flat and dated- odd the difference a vowel makes

Excellentsausages · 05/06/2026 18:20

Christina for sure, Christine is very dated. Kit or Kitty would make a nice nickname.

ToadRage · 05/06/2026 18:53

I like both but I do think Christina is prettier in the same way i think Joanna is prettier than Joanne. If you don't want her to be Tina, choose your own preferred diminutive e.g. Chris, Chrissy or Christy, if you always call her that then she'll likely stick with it.

MrsDoylesTeacup · 05/06/2026 19:37

Christina definitely, Christine always reminds me of the crazy car that killed people in the Stephen King novel!

Tonissister · 05/06/2026 19:39

I massively prefer Christina. For some reason I hate the name Christine but Christina (or Kristina, I like the Scandi spelling better) is pretty. Lots of nns: Chrissie, Tina, Christy etc.

Those are lovely nicknames.

goingtotown · 05/06/2026 19:40

Kristina

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/06/2026 20:08

I've never met a nice Christine. Christina is lovely.

You could shorten it to Christa?

BatsInHibernation · 06/06/2026 20:33

Christina feels more delicate and light. But if you really don't want Tina then maybe Christa, Cristabel?

timoteigirl · 10/06/2026 13:18

I like Christina or Kristina better. Christine reminds me of Stephen King horror. Christine would somehow also more reflect the meaning of the name, being a Christian, so I may think the parents are Christians.

GladHazelPoster · 14/06/2026 10:52

I think Christina is iconic tbh
