Boy names are HARD - please help!

Baby boy is due in days and I'm still not sold on a name — so different from naming our daughter (Vivienne) where I fell in love with the name and nn potential! DH and I have different boy name styles and he's vetoed most of my favorites (RIP Max, Leo, Harrison "Harry", Henry "Hank" 😅). We agree on James, last name starts with C and is two syllables.

Help me pick the middle, please!

• James Vincent (DH's favorite)
• James Daniel (family name)
• James Hugo
• James Oscar
• James Leo
• James Sebastian

Open to other suggestions too! Also wrestling with one thing: I love Will Campbell but feel like Will needs to be William on the birth certificate — and I don't love William. Would you just go with Will? TYIA!

Did you mean to post your surname in the last paragraph?

For me James Daniel is the best option. And I prefer William to Will but also have a cousin who is just ‘Will’ so it’s your choice, although for me James is much nicer.

ShetlandishMum · 19/05/2026 03:42

William, yes not Will.

James is nice but hard to judge a middle name. It depends on surname.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 19/05/2026 04:51

I like James Daniel the best. Lovely name.

PinkJ · 19/05/2026 04:59

Ellis

mathanxiety · 19/05/2026 05:02

James Daniel is nice. I also like James Hugo.

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/05/2026 05:10

Vincent or Daniel are my favourites!

Tellmetomorrow57 · 19/05/2026 05:28

I like James Vincent!

TheyGrewUp · 19/05/2026 05:40

They are all good names. Personally I think Vincent is out. JVC is a company. Also Oscar - JOC aren't great initials, especially with a Scottish surname.

James is great but I think you need a two syllable middle name with it. I like William but you don't.

Edward or Nicholas?

AImportantMermaid · 19/05/2026 05:43

James Patrick is a good strong name.

You could also have, instead of William - Wilbur, Willard, or the rather wonderful Wilfred - and then you can choose between the nicknames Will, Wilf (fantastic), or Fred.

GHOSTTHINKER · 19/05/2026 06:38

What about James William

user1492757084 · 19/05/2026 09:34

My faves aee James Vincent and James Daniel.

I also like William.

Ideas..
Wilfred James C
James Willoughby C
Digby James
James Duncan

Calliopespa · 19/05/2026 11:48

I like James Hugo.

Agree JVC initials and also think Vincent and Vivienne is getting a bit heavy on the V names.

I also liked the suggestion of James Patrick.

I'm not a fan of Daniel, and think it doesn't go that well with Campbell

LulaLulaByeBye · 19/05/2026 11:53

I would not just go with Will, no.
I like James Sebastian best. But I would always go for a family name for a middle name unless the family name was dreadful (both mine have a grandparents' middle name as their middle name).

NamingNoNames · 19/05/2026 12:56

Would you just go with Will? No.

Not keen on the middle names. None flow very well. I'd go with a family name or surname.
James Henry C- sounds good.

EconomyClassRockstar · 19/05/2026 13:10

I know 2 adult Will's that are just Will and I love their names. It very much works as a name in itself. Except on MN!

xrayted · 19/05/2026 13:31

I have a new grandson with Elliot as one name which I love

NannyOgg26 · 19/05/2026 17:11

I'd go with James Daniel, both are classic biblical names that go well together. 😊

user293948849167 · 19/05/2026 17:58

I like James Daniel best, also like Vincent
James William is also nice
I think Will would have to be William on birth certificate

Eenameenadeeka · 20/05/2026 01:58

How about Wilbur instead of William?
I like James Hugo.

WimbleOfWombledon · 20/05/2026 02:31

I like Vincent and Patrick best

ThatMintMember · 20/05/2026 09:59

I like James Sebastian :)
