Your thoughts on Isaac Matthew?

Hi me and my husband are expecting a boy, we both absolutely love Isaac. We picked Matthew for the middle name, your thoughts on the two names?

As long as the surname isn't Stick or Snob.

🤣

GoldDuster · 28/01/2026 13:51

Biblical, safe. Probably won't be another.

NamingNoNames · 28/01/2026 13:57

The 'firstname middlename' threads always seem to concentrate on the flow of the two names.
What really matters is the first name and surname. Isaac won't go with some surnames (e.g. Cox, Dixon).

🙏 😇
very biblical - if that’s your thing

Like Ezra, Zachary, Nathan, James, Luke, and 90% of other names for both boys and girls in the UK...

What's the problem with 'biblical' or 'religious' names?

Oh i like it, although i prefer Mathew Issac, but either way both great names.

This is what I came to say too!

mathanxiety · 28/01/2026 14:03

OP. imo, Isaac Matthew is a great name. Both are classic names.

loislovesstewie · 28/01/2026 14:05

Matthew is lovely, Isaac isn't.

ginasevern · 28/01/2026 14:08

Both good solid names but Matthew is far less common than Isaac these days and I prefer Matthew Isaac personally.

Isaac Matthew is great. I like it that way around.

I do too. I think Isaac is slightly more characterful as a first name, but I like them both.

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/07/2026 09:55

Love it. Great names either way round.

Rubes24 · 03/07/2026 10:00

It sounds quite biblical to me. But nothing wrong with that if you dont mind that! I love the name Matthew! X

Came on to say this. I know Isaac's with the last names King and Dick.

Make sure you say the whole name and first name/surname combo out loud before you commit!

Everleigh13 · 03/07/2026 12:17

It’s nice. I like both names. Good choice 👍

BeaLola · 03/07/2026 12:22

I really like Matthew, not so keen on Isaac but IMO it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks you both go with what you both love

UrsulaBelle · 03/07/2026 12:25

Both nice names. People do tend to misspell Isaac as Issac though.

ImFineItsAllFine · 03/07/2026 12:30

Really like it!

My DC both have very solid biblical boys' names and we aren't even slightly religious.

Bridgertonisbest · 03/07/2026 12:53

I have an Isaac, it means laughter. He’s grown up now but I still love the name.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 03/07/2026 12:56

NamingNoNames · 28/01/2026 12:51

The Matthew Isaac might flow better but he'll be Isaac Surname most of the time.

@ThisSassyQuoter , don't put the middle name at the start because it's a PITA.

It's just as Biblical as David John or Samuel James.

Edited

Nobody hears anyone’s middle name until they graduate or get married or something.

I don't disagree but I wouldn't recommend Matthew Isaac Surname known as Isaac anyway because people will assume he's Matthew.

OP's baby was probably named months ago.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/07/2026 18:34

Lovely.

SnowFrogJelly · 03/07/2026 20:21

Like it.. but prefer Matthew Isaac

timoteigirl · 03/07/2026 20:26

Just pick what you like. To me the combo is very religious but then again you hardly use the middle name.
