NT - first trimester

Hi. Does anyone have experience of a borderline high nuchal translucency (NT) (2.5mm in our case) at the 12-week scan followed by a “low chance” NIPT? If so, what did you do in terms of further testing (such as amniocentesis) and/or follow-up? It seems to be a grey area as the NHS threshold for invasive testing is 3.5mm but they still consider 2.5-3.4mm to be high and potentially a cause for concern? Any advice welcome.

Yep. I did.

The NIPT is very reliable so I wouldn’t see the need to have an amniocentesis once you have the results from that. I would be surprised if they suggest you need an amnio.

But for completeness, I did do it twice - once on the NHS and once privately.

@WhatWouldMyMamaSay Thanks for your reply. May I ask whether all was ok and what your NT measurement was? I didn’t know that NIPT was available on the NHS?

My nuchal reading was borderline but it was just under. I’m afraid I can’t remember the reading. They then offered me the NIPT as a first step to confirm. I’m not sure if that’s something all NHS trusts do, but it was offered in response to the nuchal test. I also got it privately done to be sure. All was ok fortunately.

Did you do the NIPT privately?

@WhatWouldMyMamaSayyes, we did it privately. we haven’t been offered NIPt on the NHS unfortunately.

I’m currently holding my 8 week old in my arms who is perfectly healthy and had an nt of 2.7mm.

I’ve also had a TFMR for t21 previously and in that case the nt was 6.1mm so very high.

With my first we had a NT of 2.6mm and I also had low Paap-a but results still came back as low risk (although not as low as I know they can be). Baby was born 50th centile and healthy x
