I confessed to a friend that I had a bit of a crush on Postman Pat. He’s not the most conventionally attractive man, but he has a calming way about him, and is clearly a capable problem solver and provider. He’ll also have a good public sector pension, and security is a big plus for me.

I mentioned this to a friend and she said I had “no chance”. She said Pat was a middle-aged single man with a cat, and I should “read between the lines”.

I think it's really sad that the blatant lies about the character names on Captain Pugwash are still being bandied about on MN.
The main character names were Master Mate and Tom the Cabin Boy. There was also never a character called Seaman Staines.
I heard a rather sad interview with the cartoonist some years ago. He made a living after the show doing talks in schools. Once these lies were spread all his work dried up.
Such is the power of utter shite spouted by the ignorant.

I know this is a lighthearted post about a tv character. But I wanted to say how boring it is that we still stereotype people and sexuality in this way.
A middle-aged single man with a cat, must be gay, why? Because he’s never met the “one”? What if he likes dogs instead of cats, is that more heterosexual?
I am a middle-age single woman, do people assume I’m gay too?

My aunt went on a girls drunken weekend at Butlins back in the 80’s and some poor sod working there was dressed up as postman pat. Apparently some of the group got a bit obsessed, kept playing with his nose and joking that they’d love to sit on his face 😆
