What to buy husband for birthday

LivelySquid · Today 10:14

What do you all buy for your husbands birthdays, after being together so many years?
He has everything he needs and wants for his hobbies. Has enough nice clothes. We take a couple of holidays and weekend breaks every year.
He always gets me good presents and says I should know him and his likes after so many years. I find the whole present buying thing very stressful.

I don't know your husband, so how do I know either?

I tend to agree with him, you live together so observe him a bit and you'll know what he likes and doesn't like - buy him something accordingly - its not hard

If you know what he likes just buy him that even if it is samey! Although I get your point though ive been with my husband 100s of years 😂 so it is difficult to think, our birthdays are a couple of weeks apart we started to do "experiences" last year it was a weekend away, this year we are going to a show, i paid for tickets he will buy dinner and drinks.

An experience he wouldn't usually do but linked to his likes, eg llama or zookeeper day if he likes animals, whiskey/wine tasting/chef lesson if hes a foodie etc.
Or ask him to jot a wish list down if he expects decent gifts and you struggle to find the right thing.

I always think an upgrade on something he likes is a good idea. If he likes slippers a new expensive pair, or if he likes cooking a really good knife, better headphones or upgrade on fitness watch. Really nice underwear, something he would buy himself.

I usually go for some kind of experience, eg music or comedy tickets. Sometimes I’ve really nailed it, like if his favourite band happen to be playing nearby, but if there isn’t anything around that he’ll like there’s times I’ve just gone for his favourite beer/ snacks, some novelty socks and taken him out for a nice dinner and he seems equally happy! In a long term relationship I don’t think the actual present really matters- just make him feel special on the day.

The present that my husband thought was the best by far was a flying lesson at our nearest flying school. I had once heard him mention that he would love to fly a plane, just a passing remark. As he was in his eighties at the time I drove us to the school to book, he had no idea where we were going, to make sure that he would be able to climb into the plane. He could! While he was chatting I talked to the woman on reception and found out that for not a lot more money he could go up in a 4 seater and I could go in the back. I booked the 4 seater and they said that if we were okay to go up midweek, just to pick a day with a good weather forecast and ring up the day before.
We waited until the weather improved and the actual experience surpassed both our expectations. He got to fly the plane over places that he knew from his younger days. We got club membership for the day and he got a certificate. The bar/cafe was great and afterwards we sat there and watched men in black jumpsuits sliding down ropes out of a helicopter for entertainment.

My husbands birthday is right near Christmas so I will often buy his presents together and further down the line decide which one to give him for which. One year I bought him a gift set of his favourite tipple and a set of branded glasses, I gave him the gift set for his birthday and the glasses for Christmas. This year i have already got him a mug and tshirt with a character he likes on I haven't decided yet which to give him first bit its so far away i may choose to give him both for Christmas and get him something else for his birthday. It is very important to us that he gets separate presents.

agree With the upgrades of things he already has. Or tickets to see a play/show he likes? I gave mine tickets to swan lake as he’d never seen a ballet and he loved it 🥰
