AIBU to dislike hotel rooms without a proper wardrobe or drawers?

Really like the ibis hotel, but don't like the fact that there is no proper wardrobe or chest of drawers. So I wondered what people do with their clothes, because usually you hang your clothes in the wardrobe and other items you put in the chests of drawers there is a hanging rack, but that's all just curious as to what other people do

The hangers are fixed into the clothing rack, but there are not enough hangers, so I will have to take my own hangers from home to put other clothes on the rack with my own hangers. Because I don't think the hotel will provide extra hangers

I tend not to put things in drawers and just hang up the very few things that need hanging up. I have never stayed more than a couple of nights at an Ibis.

Doesn't bother me as my clothes stay in my suitcase or bag. I never unpack properly, might hang up a jacket or top but that's it.

Bikergran · Today 08:55

Easier to clean, less likelihood of guests leaving stuff behind. Yes, they will provide extra hangers if you ask at reception. I hang up a few things and neatly fold other stuff on the shelf below.

I think it depends on how long you're staying for. For just a night or two I really don't think a proper wardrobe or drawers are necessary. There is enough hanging space for the very few things that need it, and the other things just stay in my suitcase.

if I was staying somewhere longer than 3 nights I wouldn't want to be in an Ibis (or Travelodge or Premier Inn) anyway. I do quite a lot of short breaks and usually stay at Premier Inn as I know their beds are comfortable. I'm really not bothered about needing extra wardrobe space or drawers.

I don't unpack clothes, they stay neatly folded in the case until used so I'd prefer less of wardrobes or drawers and more floor space or a place to sit.

The only Ibis I've stayed in recently was an Ibis Budget in central London. It was a last minute booking for one night. The shower was huge, there was a pull out thing with fixed hangers but no drawers, no drawers, the main bed was kingsized. We both felt that we wouldn't fancy using the bunk bed above the bed and were glad there were just the 2 of us in the room.

I have never used a hotel wardrobe or drawers, everything stays in my bag until I need it.

We just stayed 5 nights in a budget TravelLodge Hotel in London.

It's the first time I've ever stayed in a hotel room without any drawers. There was a rail with 5 or 6 hangers.

So I managed to hang all my clothes that needed hanging. And left the stuff I would normally put in drawers in my suitcase which I had lying flat on the floor next to the hanging clothes.

It wasn't ideal. But. The hotel was so convenient for transport and the staff were so nice and friendly and it was perfectly adequate for our needs. And it was a reasonable price. So the lack of clothes storing facilities didn't really bother me

Apparently the average length of stay in most hotels is 1.89 nights ie. most people stay 1-2 nights only. On that basis, most people are not unpacking their cases and may just hang up a couple of garments that would otherwise get creased eg. a dress or a jacket, and won't need drawers at all. So when a room gets redesigned, clothing storage is an obvious area to eliminate and reduce cost/save space.

RedPony1 · Today 10:27

I've never used a wardrobe or drawers so not really thought about it

TheVeryAngryBanana · Today 10:36

I like the ibis racks, they're good for stacking suitcases. Hotels with wardrobes often don't have a good place for empty cases. We'd never stay more than 1 night in an ibis though

Ooofbananas · Today 10:38

I use packing cubes and if there are drawers I put them in, still in the cubes. If not, the cubes keep them organised. For hanging clothes, I’d just request extra hangers, if needed or double up clothes on the ones available.

PollyBell · Today 10:39

Never bothered really if there is hanging i use maybe it if not i don't

BauhausOfEliott · Today 10:42

Just hang up what you can and leave everything else folded in your case.

timeforteaandcakes · Today 10:43

I always unpack, even for one night. I like to make myself at home and don’t feel settled unless I’m unpacked.
I do however travel light so a shelf and a few hangers has always been enough.

Lincslady53 · Today 10:54

Depends how long we are staying for. We have a week coming up in France. First 2 nights, just one night in 2 different hotels. So we will pack what we need on top, and live out of out cases. Then 3 nights in the next stop, so we will unpack. Final 2 nights in another stop, so will put worn clothes in one case, and leave it closed. Unpack the other case. We often have a couple of nights in Premier Inn Hub in London, which doesn't have a proper wardrobe, but we unpack everything to give the creases a chance to drop out.

ToadRage · Today 11:06

I never use drawers or wardrobes in hotels unless I have something that needs to hang like dresses. I just live out of my case. It is unusual for me to spend more than a few nights in a hotel anyway. When holidaying with my parents we might get a Travelinn for 2/3 nights before moving on to our usual gite. My husband usually books an Airbnb or we go somewhere we can stay with friends/relatives.

HelpMeGetThrough · Today 11:12

I don’t bother. Last time I was away for a decent amount of time, was a work trip to the US which was just under 3 weeks.

I lived out of my case and clothes that needed a wash were stuffed in a laundry bag ready to be done at the weekend. When I got them back they went back in the case.

Made leaving the room on my last day dead easy as I just zipped up the case and closed the door.

purplecorkheart · Today 11:20

I rarely use the wardrobe and drawers unless it is long dresses etc. I am mindful when packing to use clothes that do not crease etc. Normally do not stay in hotel for more than a few nights unless on holiday and even then may switch hotels.

SusanChurchouse · Today 11:29

Going on holiday with my daughter is interesting as I like to fully unpack whereas she just lives out of her suitcase and the floor around it.

I like getting stuff hung up and find there is usually a shortage of hangers. Might start taking my own. I do put stuff in drawers then get paranoid I’ll forget about it and leave it there when I go home. I lost a good pair of trousers that way.

ColdAsAWitches · Today 11:44

Just keep them in your case. Transfer to laundry bag as used, then back into case at end of trip. Simple.

KnickerlessParsons · Today 11:53

Another one who never uses the wardrobe or drawers. I might put my coat on a hanger in the wardrobe if there's no hook on the back of the door, but otherwise everything stays in my suitcase.

Just how long are you staying if you need extra hangers?
