AIBU to get old piercings reopened?

I'm early 50s and for the last 25 years or so, have been unable to wear earrings. They were fine for years, then suddenly weren't. Couldn't put my finger on what caused it.

I've tried absolutely everything over the years - surgical steel, gold, silver, plastic - borrowed titanium and platinum from a friend just to see - left them out for months in between to make sure they were healed. The minute I tried again, itching and weeping started within 10 mins.

I don't have sensitive skin in general (v dark hair, olive skin) so it makes no sense and I still really miss wearing earrings.

Recently been reading about it being possible to have them reopened/repierced, obviously by a reputable piercing studio and using surgical grade titanium. Has anyone had success with this? I really want to try, but not sure I should rely on Google and none of my friends has this issue.

YABU - it won't work, accept your earring-less fate

YANBU - go for it, worth a try

Go for it, I wear earrings overnight as difficult if I don’t to change them I’m 64

I had mine re-pierced about 10 years ago. The original piercing was a bit wonky and a pain to get earrings in. I left them out too long and they closed up.
Had them redone by a proper piercer with a needle and titanium and had no problems since.

Don't know why it never occurred to me to try again, just thought I'd never find any that didn't irritate...seems like there's hope! 🤞🏼

I'll definitely book in once back from holiday, (I'm going in 3 weeks and assume it wouldn't be great timing before then...)

Yes I had mine redone. I stopped wearing earrings as my dd kept pulling them out. After a few years they closed up. Got them re done at a proper piercing place. Keep them in now. But gold only. Everything else irritates me

I had mine re done in my 40s at a tattoo place and no regrets. However I’ve not had the sensitivity issues you’ve had so can’t help there.

Do it! I had my nose piercing reopened with different jewellery and haven't had any issues with it since.
