Aibu to want pilates recommendations

Posting in aibu for traffic sorry.

Aibu to ask you all for some yoga/pilates dvd /video download recommendations?

For health reasons my physio has suggested pilates & yoga but my work commitments, kids & DH being out etc mean its incredibly hard to get to a regular class.

I am happy to buy stuff/spend money but it would ideally be:

  • short sessions eg 30 mins
  • that i can do in my own home at a time that suits

I have done pilates & yoga before so it doesnt have to be geared at total beginners...

Recommendations please, im desperate

Depending on your previous experiences of Pilates and yoga and your preferences as a result, my recommendations would be Lottie Murphy Pilates and Move with Nicole. Both have a brilliant plethora of free videos on YouTube though Lottie Murphy also has subscription app with classes. I really rate both for focusing on good form ( and typically Lottie’s videos follow classical Pilates whilst Move with Nicole has some brilliant hybrid Pilates/yoga flows that I find really energising.

Hopefully you find something that suits!

I know you said it’s hard for you to get to a class but I’d strongly recommend finding a local Pilates studio and booking on a couple of beginner Mat Pilates sessions. This way the instructor can have a look at your form/movement and will be able to tell you if you are doing the moves correctly.

It’s all good following free YouTube videos or DVDs, but with no instructor watching you and guiding you, it’s very easy to injure yourself.

Once you’ve attended a couple of sessions and feel confident with the movements - then I’d start with following online videos. Like PP suggested: MoveWithNicole on YouTube.

If you are in physio and they are recommending this then i wouldnt mess about with YouTube and group.

Find a proper classically trained BASI pilates teacher and go 1-1.

Some teachers will do online. It’s not ideal but 2-3 online sessions 1:1 with a BASI or balanced body pilates instructor would be a good base to start from.

Pilates & Yoga with Katja on YouTube is very good. A lot of classes of different lengths.

Thanks, ive done it before, just want the structure of a routine to follow but to do it at a time that suits me so not looking for anything with an instructor "live"

Thanks, ive considered this but needs to be at my own home due to children and i need flexibility to do it when it suits me, if I have to book sessions with an instructor i wont be able to just move it short notice if working late etc or DH late home.

I go to reformer classes once a week, but often do Pilates By Izzy on YouTube in between. She has a 25 day challenge thing that I keep meaning to do, but I tend to just dip in and out and pick eg a 20 minute core routine or whatever.
